In the winter, sweaters or sweater vests with shirt and ties are a must for the workplace (if it's permissible of course).

 

A definite do not....Do not wear a normal jacket/coat over a suit jacket in the winter. It looks trashy. That's what overcoats are for. They're called overcoats for a reason.

 

I bought a dark gray/almost black cashmere overcoat years ago. Specifically to wear over a suit jacket in the winter. If the weather is almost cold enough for the overcoat but not quite, I'd rather be chilly and wear no coat. After all, confidence is high that if I'm wearing a suit jacket, I'm probably going straight from the car to an indoor function.

Here's a couple that gall me to no end.

 

Ladies that wear pajama bottoms to the mall, the box store or the grocery. How lazy are these people to get out of bed, not even bother to change out of their PJs, and go shopping?

 

Guys (usually) that show off their new tats by wearing sleeveless t-shirts, even in the dead of winter. Hint - that ink isn't nearly as impressive on goose-pimpled arms.

I'll admit I only read the first 30 or so posts of this thread so I don't know exactly what was said but I'll give my input.

 

Belt and shoe color must be the same. If you are wearing a polo shirt and jeans you should be wearing dress shoes. I have no problem with a black dress shirt (I wear this look quite often) as long as black dress shoes are involved. I will never wear a short sleeve dress shirt with a tie. I HATE when I see people wearing dress shoes with white socks.

 

 

I don't think I own a short-sleeve dress shirt. Someone told me a long time ago that this was the "McDonald's look".

I was recently told that you're supposed to wear brown shoes with a navy suit. Apparently it doesn't really matter, but that's the appropriate "style".

 

May be true, but as someone who qualifies for the senior discount at Frisch's, old habits are hard to break. It will always be black accessories with navy for me.

 

Other styles that I will not adopt -

 

Skinny jeans (an oxymoron for me anyway)

 

Ball caps turned sideways or backwards (I've always secretly believed that a person's intelligence was inversely proportional to the degree to which the ball cap was turned)

 

Pants/jeans that expose even the slightest portion of my undershorts

 

Untucked dress shirts

 

Braces (suspenders)

I fall strongly in your camp. I may wear boots (Redwings) with my jeans but for the most part it's tennis shoes.

I think it depends on the setting but 98% of the time I am OK with nice gym shoes and jeans.

To add to my prior comment: Just because you're stupid enough to pay $100 for a pair of jeans doesn't mean those jeans become "dressy." They're still just jeans. In the immortal words of Butt-Head — "You can't polish a turd, Beavis."

I've got two pairs of these Georgia boots: one steel-toed, one without. They're comfortable as all get-out, and they clean up pretty well. I've had the non-steel toed pair for 7 years now, and I've worn them 5 or 6 days of the week the whole time I've owned them. They still look good enough to wear out with jeans...as long as I haven't brought home any mud on them. I've probably washed and scrubbed them down 500 or 600 times, literally, and I'm just now getting ready to replace them (with the exact same boots). Great buy for $140.

Nice. I may have to check them out when I go boot shopping again (which may be a very long time away). I'm in the same boat as you on my Redwings. I've had mine going on 5 years now and they look good enough to wear with jeans and I've put them through hell. I'm also with you on the scrubbing down 500 or 600 times.

 

I paid a little under that for mine. One of my college roommates had every style and material of boot imaginable (think ostrich skin boots) and he got me a decent deal on them in Nicholasville.

I respectfully disagree. That look can be pulled off well and is good for casual dress Friday, imo.

What about stubble? Is that kind of facial hair allowed, especially when you're not growing a beard? Like if you were just too lazy to shave?
