You seem to be in the know, I am curious. Who are the stronger boys on the team?

 

I couldn't tell you how everyone stacks up. They rarely try to max out. But the guy who was probably the strongest on the team this year was Thoerner.

As far as next years Mayfield team, I think the reason for so much optimism is because of the freshman and soph classes. 9 quality freshmen athletes from Graves Co transferred to Mayfield this year to go along with 7 or 8 really solid athletes that they already had coming up, giving them good #s there to go along with a super soph class, led by our all-stater Jackson. Throw in Higginson & Ross as 2 other returning playmakers and you've got the nucleous to have something special... Luke Guhys younger brother, Jake, will take over the reigns at QB and should be every bit as good by the time he's done, but, won't be out of the gate. And, as others point out, the line will be key. They'll be young and inexperienced, but, not without talent and size. They'll likely struggle early on and improve as the season wears on... I think the Cards have a legit shot to make it back to state in 2011, but, will not be as good as the 09 and 10 teams.. Now 2012 and 2013, however, could be special teams again and I think if they don't win at least 1 title in those 2 years, the fans would be very disappointed...

Really? Thanks for the info. To be honest, that surprises me. I would have thought that it would have been a bunch of juniors.

Is it because you think Beechwood has those wrapped up? I recall getting on BGP's after the 08 season and the Beechwood faithfull proclaiming that the incomming team was a special bunch and that they were the team to beat in the forcomming season and seasons. I think the jury is very much out on Beechwood and state titles. Not saying it won't happen, just that Beechwood is in a little lull. If Mayfields line and QB come together sometime next year they will be right in the thick of it and I guarrantee they will be be one or the solid favorite for 12.

As far as next season, Joe Staten will be the strongest kid on the team. Jeremy Williams could be thrown in the mix for starting center.

I disagree, I think their chances of a title in one or both those years is pretty good but who knows what else is out there, it's a big state.

I'm sure they would be disappointed, but more so for 2010 than 2009. The best team won the state title last year.

None of which have had any impact on this years team. I only see 1 of those kids, (Mills) being much help in football. Maybe to in the Kendall kid. Other than those 2 I dont think the others that transferred play football.

 

They all play...Just Mills and Kendall are the only 2 who's seen any action on the varsity level. Sevic has played a little and 1 or 2 others, but, mainly Mills...That doesn't mean they aren't really good players, just that they're playing behind some really good upper classmen.. Nothing wrong with that...
