When I made that comment about the line play we were talking about the loss of Bob Burnett as as a coach. Coach Burnett has very specific drills he did that are no longer done with the team. Those drills were very good, especially for the undersized lineman.

Regarding QB comment: I was talking about life after Taylor Davis. There is a huge age gap between Taylor and the 7th QB for the freshman team. Regarding Taylor, I think he will be a better at running than Colisomo (sp?) but I wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near the speed of Rigdon or Elliott. I'm surprised we didn't see more of Taylor on defense this year. Seems to be quite an athlete and could have rested some guys that were playing both ways (one of my beefs!). I thought he could be a decent defensive end (much stronger than current) or safety. You could say they didn't want to hurt the back up QB but there were plenty of QBs at Beeechwood that played defense (Jeff Wera).

 

Kinda curious as to what drills your refering to? As to TD, he did play some defense from what I saw. I guess they didn't play him more since they probably didn't like what they saw or had others that they felt were better. Not sure. I would agree he has a nice body and you would think he could've used it to help out.

TP, I would hope you would not let one game be your judge of Mr. Vocke. I would think you are better than that. MF set the defense up to stop him and force the pass. I wonder what would of happened if say even half of the drops were caught.

1 game no, physical stature, yes. Let me say that I know he is a good back but I dont see him being elite as I was expecting from all I had heard

Vocke is all about what happens when he gets to the second level. His balance, cuts and immediate reacceleration to top speed are special. He was never really able to get into the open field against Mayfield. Give your boys credit for keeping Vocke in check on the 10 carries he had.

 

Side note: This is starting to feel like a Highlands thread. Five pages, over 200 posts and still talking about the game a week later.

Putting the cart before horse here but looking at what we have returning and what Bw and several other of the traditional 1A powers return, I think I like our chances. Give me a few days and we will debate this in its own thread

Davis isn't faster than Colosimo and he isn't stronger than Brilz

 

He is faster than Colosimo! and he is stronger than Brilz. You would be surprised at who some of the stronger players are and which one's need to get in the weightroom. For some, playing other sports limits their time in the WR while the others have been hitting it for months. I totally advocate playing all other sports, but it typically means 5 less months of weights & FB conditioning and ya can't make up the time lost in the WR...IMO.

 

Brilz and Bradley are probably the two options at center.

 

Bradley's natural position is center and he's very good, but I would never move him from the middle of D-line. Hopefully no one needs to go both ways on the line again this year. Right now at center, I think it will be Lawless, Brilz, and then Bradley in that order.

I agree, we will wait a while because you guy's have business to take care of and we don't. However, after taking a quick glance at the MF roster, you are graduating pretty much every "key" position so replacing all those playmakers and repeating will be tough, but it can be done. Anymore Arkansas Razorbacks in the near future?

I don't think so. But regardless, I think we both would agree Davis is a passing QB and is not going to be anything like Elliott or Rigdon running the ball. I do think Davis could be Beechwood record setting at QB throwing the ball if the offense heads that way.

We sent out feelers across Arkansas and are looking into trying to tap into Mississippi for additional talent :sssh:

 

We do lose alot but also return alot and I am really high on next years qb and he has a wealth of returning backs and recievers. It all comes down to the young line who we know is going to be good but will they be ready that fast? I think they may. More on this later
