So after watching Vocke, I came away very underimpressed, is he overhyped? He just seemed like a ordinary hs back but the wr who had 2 td's left me thinking, this guy is the real deal. Overall, Guhy stood out the most for either team and he does not get alot of attention despite amazing numbers

 

Come on TP...47 yards on 10 carries in the 1st half against what is arguably the greatest 1A team ever assembled, with potentially the best MLB in MF history, is not too bad

 

If I read correctly, MF had 367 rushing yards last year and 105 this year (probably 3/4 of those on the final 2 drives) against a pretty small inexperienced defense. Do you stand behind the post from another MF fan that you guys are "wayyyy" better than last year? No way! Shelton was a one-man wrecking crew last year.

 

Vocke was hyped and you were disapointed because he looked average, but BW fans know he's better. Jackson was hyped and I for one was disappointed because I was looking for a kid cutout of Shelton's mold, but MF fans know he's better. Peyton Manning looked less than average against SD 2 days ago and he's a HOF'er. Neither kid is an average HS player so we can stop saying that...

 

Bottomline: MF did what good teams do and that was capitalize on mistakes and forced BW into being one-dimensional with their less-than capable passing game. BW shtudown the running game, but wasn't able to contain your speed & experience with our secondary which all BW fans know has been an achilles heel against good QB's.

 

We can do all the would've/could've/should've's we want, but in the end BW didn't rise to the occasion and didn't seem to have that fire in their gut like the NCC and FF games. Intimidated? I don't think so, but perhaps. IMO, MF wins 2 out of 3 times if it's best-of-three...But, we just don't have that luxury.

 

I hope like heck you get your doors blown off again this year, but with so much senior leadership/experience at pretty much every key position like LCA had last year...I just don't see it happening again this year.

Well, I do hope that the rest of the Beechwood faithful will support the Cards after you all are done with the infighting that seems to have broken out after the loss. Funny thing is that I told a budddy before the game that I suspected that it might come to that if you all lost to Mayfield again but I did not expect it to be as bad on here as it has been. I hope everyone kisses and makes up and comes down to BG and supports the Cards. Beechwood fans will really like the facilities, it is a shame that you all have not had the chance to experience a championship at BG but I am sure you all will get the chance in the future

This is interesting that you mention line play as well. I did not see your post as it took me a long time to write my post!

 

QB is a big issue as well. The freshman team had a 7th grader at QB. He did a great job but 1)he won't be on varsity for a while and with his body I'm not sure he will be a QB.

In my opinion they have a very good junior QB (Taylor Davis) in waiting. He will be very very good next year. He is big, strong, with a nice arm. Hopefully, he will learn to run like Rigdon and Elliot. I think that is what the Beechwood coaching staff likes out of a QB.

 

Their line has two guys returning; however, they have plenty of Juniors that can fill in very nicely (Lawless, Greenwieller, Brilz, Breley, Williams, Bradley). Some of these guys played defensive line last year but I guess they could go both ways or get switched over.

 

I don't know who they will move to center this year. That is a big question for me.

When I made that comment about the line play we were talking about the loss of Bob Burnett as as a coach. Coach Burnett has very specific drills he did that are no longer done with the team. Those drills were very good, especially for the undersized lineman.

 

Regarding QB comment: I was talking about life after Taylor Davis. There is a huge age gap between Taylor and the 7th QB for the freshman team. Regarding Taylor, I think he will be a better at running than Colisomo (sp?) but I wouldn't expect him to be anywhere near the speed of Rigdon or Elliott. I'm surprised we didn't see more of Taylor on defense this year. Seems to be quite an athlete and could have rested some guys that were playing both ways (one of my beefs!). I thought he could be a decent defensive end (much stronger than current) or safety. You could say they didn't want to hurt the back up QB but there were plenty of QBs at Beeechwood that played defense (Jeff Wera).

It looks like there will be a tremendous loss of talent and holes to fill after next season.

Davis isn't faster than Colosimo and he isn't stronger than Brilz or Everett. Davis is not going to be a running QB and he is nowhere near the runner Rigdon and Elliott were. He is not a DE. However, he has a very good arm, great touch on the ball, is poised in the pocket even in the face of pressure and is a good decision maker. There are no concerns at all at QB next year with Davis at the helm. It may take him a couple games to get the tools sharpened up in live game situations but he will likely become the best throwing QB Beechwood has had in who knows how long.

 

As to the line - these linemen all played quality minutes this year ... Eyckmans, Flannery, Lawless, Greenweller, Brilz, Bradley, Verkamp. Williams will be back healthy hopefully and likely start on offense. Brilz and Bradley are probably the two options at center. I like Bradley at DT though. Add in Breyley who could help on defense. Then at end you have Cruse, Everett and Cardosi. There is plenty to work from there and you probably will be playing mostly platoon football on the lines.

You have no purpose to be on the field or track; regardless of what you are use to. Should be in the stands with the rest of the fans.

 

Well, when the stands are not big enough to accomodate every one it makes it a little harder, i am quite sure that there will be NO chain gang from Beechwood, or anybody that is not a coach on the sidelines at MHS the next time Beechwood goes to MHS !! lol

BW never lets fans on the track at all much less in the end zone. So the fact you were there at all speaks volumes

 

Atheletic Director gave permission for fans to stand on the track all the way to the goal post. then the coach had the fans removed! Thats a fact, i heard him give the permission!
