I don't think Mercer has officially talked to anyone and I don't think they will officially talk to anyone until January. I do think that even if they "miss out" on an established coach that they will still find the right person for the job. Call me crazy but I really think things are moving in the right direction for Mercer at this time even though they are searching for a coach.

Well they have talked to people as in the coaches came to Mercer to sit down and talk. Now I have no clue if those were "official interviews" or not but without question there has been some guys sitting down with them talking.

That is good to hear. I hope they do things sooner rather than later. They could use a good session of spring football with the new coach.

Definitely need the spring football with new coach. Ya know, there are many of us posters who have stated who we want and believe to be the answer for the football program. I now question will any of these well-established coaches believe in us and our potential. There is much work to be done, but they don't grow 'em any different in Boyle Co than they do in Mercer Co. Unfortunately we're a few years behind building the foundation for a solid program and any outside coach looking in may not see what we see. No doubt, we have a lot of catching up to do, but ya know what, when we do - if we get a good, well-established coach willing to come here - then the times will change. I'm not ignorant to the current situation, but I do believe in 'us' and with the right coach, the future could be very promising!! I look forward to that day!

I don't believe the view of the Mercer program is viewed the same out in the state as it is locally.

Because if it isn't a well established coach he will get questioned on every move he makes and will have a much harder time fending off the parents and admin. This year Jay Cobb took over at Campbellsville after a very solid stint at Somerset and the locals were questioning him on how he totally forgot how to coach in 1 year.

Unfortunately, it's a 'What have you done for me lately society' everywhere you look. That being said, I've seen this and do see this happen to established coaches, even at the highest ranks. Look at Urban Meyer and Mac Brown, all of the sudden, they forgot how to coach apparently in a year if you ask some. There's not a coach out there in this day and time that isn't vulnerable to being questioned by parents and administration when things are going as planned.

I heard last night at the Basketball Tourney that 15 people have put in for the Mercer job.

I read the same thing. I wonder who all has put in for it and if that number of applicants so far is legit.

Mercer is much more organized in this process than people are being led to believe (especially on here).

Only the pessimistic ones think they are unorganized. I think we all want to know why they aren't in a hurry though.

I don't understand why people are surprised that it is taking time. How are they to hire a coach/teacher when they do not know what teaching postions are going to be open? Also I believe there are some other domino's to fall that may have an impact on the outcome of the Mercer job and the potential candidates.
