I heard that they have formed a committee. Also heard that they may have current players on the hiring committee. I don't know if that is indeed the case but if so that seems pretty odd to me.

 

That seems like about what you would expect from people that don't know what it takes to win.

Let me reiterate that I do not know this to be fact but just something that I had heard.

I know quite a few of the players on the team and I hope they aren't on the hiring committee. Huge mistake. I can understand getting their input but it has to be noted that 1.) quite a few players told Yates they wanted Mason and 2.) kids can carry their parents agenda into the committee. I hope that is false hearsay. Nothing against the kids but no way should they be involved in hiring the coach. I have never coached football in my life but I know enough players that I bet I could work my way into the final 3 choices.

It will never happen AT MERCER CO......But Scott Bugg Would make a Heck of a Coach.

Has anyone heard anything solid about candidates to this point. Mercer needs to get a coach now, any news of who they are interviewing or have interviewed?

They had two good names yesterday. I think Mercer would be happy with either but I am not sure how either feel about Mercer. Either one if given what they ask for will do well there

I heard someone from the school say last night that they aren't planning to make a hire until April. If that is true, that's the craziest thing I've ever heard.

In the initial story on Coach Bill Mason resigning Mercer County officials seemed to indicate that they were not opposed to waiting until spring to make a hire. Based on how the story read they don't seem to be in a hurry.

 

FWIW, I have heard nothing but good things on how Todd Davis is running the offseason weightlifting program.

Todd Davis is a good friend of mine. I have no doubts that he's doing a great job.

Out of respect for the two guys I am not going to name names. I know the two guys have interviewed at a few other schools also. I will say if Mercer is going to wait until then than both of the guys I am aware of are not going to wait. Thats a shame because that means they will miss out on both these guys. Both of them want/need to be in the school by Jan.

Fair enough barrel. Loking for a coach should be high priority at this point. Hope they move with more of a sense of urgency. I still hope they at least take a look at Yeast and give him a shot at an interview. IMO, hometown boy would be great for Mercer.

If Mercer has talked to two well-established coaches, then looks like they are not wanting to wait until spring. Though I know this would shock most of us since the impression was that they were going to wait and were in no big hurry, but if 'talks' are going on now, then maybe the right buttons have been pushed. If the Mercer Admin were to pull off a big hire I know we'd all fall over... but then again, it is Christmas. Dear Santa... would you PLEASE, for the sake of our beloved Titans bring us Coach *********. You fill in the blank! :thumb:
