I think the east/west idea was more important in this particular district because it is actually the statewide dividing line for east and west. Therefore, it was more important that the eastern most schools go with Oldham County because they would also be in the east half of the state. Once that was decided, the east/west issue was not nearly as important. Bottom line, I think it is all very logical. Here is a question for those so vehemently in favor of Trinity being in the east - why is that so important to you? I can see T and X fans wanting the state championship game to line up with those two. For those like myself who are not T or X fans, why is it so important that Trinity be in the east?

 

I don't care how the chips fall, as long as they fall the same for everyone. I'm a Warren Central fan, and this situation doesn't affect me in the least. It isn't important at all to me that Trinity is in the east, only the reasoning behind how this super-district came to be, and the decision of who to place with Oldham County. I've had discussions here and in private messages, so I've got a grasp of why, but I still think the justification is rather weak.

And to be honest, even if he didn't argue a logical point, I can see why Manual would feel hosed in a district that not only didn't take any difficulty away, but added to it immensely. In the proposed district, I would say T & X will be 1, 2 most years, with Male 3 and Manual 4. I think it will be easier for Male to crack the top 2 than for Manual.

 

Here is the question based on the above...As long as 4 teams from a district make the playoffs does it matter much if you are #4 in a strong district (as this obviously will be) or #2 or 3 in a weaker district?

Let's face it ... the KHSAA is very conscious of the Trinity-St. Xavier dominance. Why else does 6A have a rotation system with districts for the playoffs, something that none of the other five classes employs?

No ... postseason matchups in all of the other classes (A-5A) are strictly based on geography. In 6A, the westernmost district was matched up with District 5 (the Louisville district that includes Trinity) two years ago, then District 2 last year and District 4 this year.

I went and looked at the playoff parings and now see what you mean. But since all 3 districts are in the same general area, that actually makes sense not to send 1 district on the road every year.

I'm not saying they should be in the same district, but if the KHSAA tries to base this stuff off of geography then X and T should at least be in the same region and at the very worst in the same semi-state. If they arent in at least one of these, then the KHSAA needs to take their whole geographic reasoning to the trash.

A district game can be played in week 6 if week 7 is an OPEN week. In this way X/T can still play "THE GAME" at the same time of year as always. This will also allow Male/Manual to schedule their big rivalry game in week 7 without any competition from St. X. or Trinity. This should actually help the crowds for both games.

Well, I guess it depends on if making the playoffs is your ultimate goal, or if moving beyond is. For the 4 schools in the M-H-X-T district, moving beyond is the goal.

 

Personally, again, I don't care where Trinity is put. I personally like the stronger district, because I (as a fan) hate watching blow out games against struggling teams. But, again, that's just my opinion. I do think it's funny that Trinity is the school being batted back and forth, though. :lol: It seems no one wants them.

Male/Manual is typically the last game of the regular season, and I don't see the new district alignment changing that. They have played the game in that slot continuously sine the last Thanksgiving Day game in 1980.

Since X and T like to schedule their tilt about the 3rd week in Sept and Male/Manual is always end of Oct/early Nov, I would think there wouldn't be any problems with overlap. And I would hope that the KHSAA would bend over backward to let members of this disproportionally-loaded district set their rivalry games with a reasonable amount of latitude. Of course, every district game in this district will be a rivalry game! ;-)
