Well, if that was the case then I can't even imagine what the fans must have smelled like at the Highlands-Bryan Station playoff game in 2008. Now THAT was a close call!

I was witness that night and have to say that most fans were simply stunned at the events that took place and were really just trying to come to grips with the fact that Highlands was about to lose on 4th down and long. It was the closest thing to shock without actually experiencing it in real life.

Yeah it really depends on the what was expected at the beginning of the season. I expected Highlands to go undefeated and win a state championship despite losing a lot of talent. I would give them a B right now because I had very high expectations. To get an A they would have had to beat Withrow by a little more and not turn the ball over as much against Ryle. The best part is they need to be about a c- and will win the state championship IMO.

A convincing win to start the season against Manual' date=' 2 sleepers against Beechwood and Boone, a near loss to Ryle and a late rally by Withrow have alot of[b'] us[/b] wondering just how solid these Birds really are.....Are these blowout wins that result in taking the starters out sometimes not even before the half is over, disrupting the chemistry of this well oiled machine? If so, should Dale let the starters take over the 2nd half of the season and play more of the games despite the score? How does anyone reason that this team will improve dramatically for Ryle II when much of the schedule is one tomato can after another???? I still think this team is great and capable of cruising to Western again, but could they be losing some competitive steam? Only time will tell.

ME! ME! ME! ME! I have a question? Who is "us"? Seriously?

A near loss to Ryle???

That was my thought exactly. The Defense in the 2nd half of the Ryle game as outstanding. The Birds have overcome injuries to some key players and have done very well.

Don't let whackem get to you. He's just a frustrated Highlands fan that wishes he would have played football for the Birds (or any other high school football team for that matter). :D

Just funning with you whackem. Hang in there. The odds are in your favor that eventually you'll get a post right.

How do you figure? Certainly, Ryle won the first half, but last the second half and the game.

As to this team losing some competitive steam, I think you are dreaming again.

I think they are picking up some steam actually. Beating the dickens out of Boone Co after winning only by 7 to Withrow was an indication that they were not happy with that performance even though it was a Win. If they can go down to Eastern and handle their business they will certainly show everyone that they have not lost any steam.

You call down 1 at half a near loss? Jeez.

I do agree that the next game will be tough.

Not unless Ryle discovers a way to use the whole field.

Is Sanders playing on the O line?

Robert plays all positions on the O Line, including Tight End. Against Boone County, he played Tight End (wore #34), however for the previous couple of games, he played interior, and started at Right and Left Tackle.

I don't know why everybody thinks the next Ryle game will be very different. They RUN THE BALL. After HHS made Halftime adjustments they didn't do that terribly well either......Ryle has never been known to improve dramatically throughtout the season and remain very one dimemsional IMO. IF the Birds don't play smart and stay in their areas of responsiblity, then I foresee a problem in the next game, but as everyone knows, they are very disciplined and will continue to improve over the course of the season moreso than anybody they will play from here on out.....I predict a 3TD victory in Union. JMO.

IMO, the difference in level of play between HHS & the majority of their competition gets wider as the season goes on. Not exactly sure if it's due to Highlands rate of improvement being that much better, or that other teams physically decline some over the last half of the season due to being beat up, or some combination of these and other reasons? Not sure. Just an observation.

Right now as good as this team has shown I can IMO only give a B+. They are making things happen, but honestly are not clicking on everything. As good as Towles has been, he still is missing the receivers on open deep routes or the receivers are not on the proper route. The ground game is good , but not smooth just yet. I would like to see more breakaway runs in yhe future. Towles needs to improve on the intermediate routes and his accuracy and it could be lights out. Defense is good and will keep improving as this is the youngest or least experienced total area IMO. Overall not far from an A but needs to get in synch consistently.

This week's game may be a trap game for them, they better prepare like they are going down to play a Trinity or St. X.

None of these kids no how to prepare to play T or X the seniors were in 7th and 8th the last time they playe St X losing 21-35 in 2006 and 0-45 in 2005. Most of these kids were in kidergarten or 1st grade the last time they player Trinity a 42-29 win in 2000.

Highlands has a remarkable program, but I can't understand why the fans always compare themselves to T and X, or continually talk about T and X when they hardly, if ever play them.

I think what the poster meant is that no one would take either Trinity or St. X lightly in football; if you are scheduled to play them, then you know it's going to be a tough game against a first-rate opponent. If you are scheduled to play a team felt by many to be only average, then perhaps there's a chance you will not go all-out in preparing for the game.

I think the poster was saying that HHS needs to prepare for a tough game Saturday.

Perhaps you missed the point of the post. The poster said that Highlands should prepare like they are going to play T or X, when in fact they are playing Eastern. The point being that Eastern should not be taken lightly, and the game should be prepared for as if they are playing either one of the top 6A programs in the state.

No one compared HHS to T or X except you.

Yes, we know that these players have never played X, however they did play T in a scrimmage earlier.
