The eastern Kentucky county where I'm from is pop country. I suppose it's that way in most of Eastern Kentucky.

Where I grew up about 80% of the people call it pop. The store signs even said pop. My mother hated the pop. So it was call it by it's name (Coke, Pepsi, etc) or call it by what it was - a beverage. It's engrained in me, anything carbonated is a beverage.

Around here, we just say "soft drink" when referring to carbonated beverages in general. Generally, if you want a cola drink, you ask for a Coke. If they only have Pepsi products, they'll tell you, and you can say, "that's fine." Otherwise, I guess you just order the specific product you want.

Whether Coke or Pepsi, I always refer to it as "a coke." Now if I want a Mountain Dew, Root Beer, Dr. Pepper or whatever else, then I'll call them by name. But rarely do I say the word "Pepsi," although I'm more than happy to drink them if that's what the restaurant serves.

Miller Lite? You're a Kentuckian aren't you? I've noticed at games that people in KY seem to drink more Bud Light and in Ohio they seem to prefer Miller. I'm a Kentuckian, but I'd rather drink flood water than BL . :thumb:
