I usually say Coke, that is what I usually say really meaning Pepsi and if at a restaraunt coke arrives instead I do not complain. I realize then I had said Coke . Sould I want a Mt. Dew I will say it or just say Dew.

For those who say Coke, is that generic for all soft drinks?

 

How would you order an orange soft drink? Orange Coke?

No, you'd just say the specific brand. i.e. Orange Crush. But it can work as a blanket statement as well. For instance my Dad will ask if I want a coke and in fact there will be no Coca Cola in the cooler, but Ski & Mountain Dew instead.

My home county had zero respondents, but all the adjoining counties were overwhelmingly "coke".

The county where I was raised - 3 Pop, 36 Coke, 160 Soda, 9 other.

 

The county where I live - 4 Pop, 2 Coke, 0 Soda and 1 other.

 

 

Either there are a lot more carbonated beverage drinkers where I grew up or a lot more people that participate in surveys.

How close are the populations?

I'm from Nky and i've always said soda. BTW a coke is a coke is a coke. Coke means Coca Cola.

It has to be POP for me.
