6 Classes in football

Featured Replies

Why not consider the 6 classes with an unequal number of teams????

Lets use 218 as the number of teams.

Why not by enrollment:

6A = 25 highest enrollment teams

5A = 42 teams

4A = 42 teams

3A = 42 teams

2A= 42 teams

1A = 25 lowest enrillment teams

The theory being that the Top 25 (and I just picked 25, it could be 22 or 20)

highest enrollment schools should be able to compete against each other as their enrollment difference would not be as great as it is now in 4A.

Also the 25 smallest schools would have an enrollment difference less than what it is now in 1A.

The remaining classes 5A, 4A, 3A, and 2A would have 42 teams instead of 54 and likewise their enrollments would be closer than in the current 2A and 3A.

Now playoffs could be somewhat similar 32 of 42 instead of 32 of 54 in 2A thru 5A, and 16 of 25 in 1A and 6A. That way 9 or 10 teams in each class would not make the playoffs (approximately 58 teams) versus 88 teams now.

Or it could be tweaked to take only 24 of 42 in class 2A thru 5A meaning aproximately 90 teams would not make the playoffs versus 88 now.

Yeah, but I put out all that money for the cool bat signal and the light-up red phone under glass.

Besides, have you ever seen him and me in the same room? Hmmm....

You got me there. Do you really have a BirdMobile?

I think four classes is fine. If you want to classify something, classify soccer and basketball.

Couldn't we try it, and after a few years we could go back to the way it was? That way we could get a title without having to go thru Louisville to get it? ;) :lol: It would mean...... well it would be a nice trophy. :D

Every year????

Every year????

Who do you think we would be playing for the title? :laugh:

Every year????

But seriously, would you rather have to face BG and BC if you were Dixie or T and X every year? It's not even close. It makes getting there every year a reality for quite a few teams IMO.

Why not do this? I think this will make football a little more competitive. The state of Ohio has 6 divisions, Michigan has 8 divisions, and Tennessee has 5 divisions. It would give some of the smaller teams a chance to win and some of the bigger schools to get into a different division than St. X, Trinity and Male.

OH has 700+ teams playing football with only 6 championships.

KY has 216 for 4 championships; we already have too many.

I disagree, the kids can go 10-0 and if there competition does poorly they are out. 10-0 should make the playoffs. They don't choose their schools, coaches, or schedule, yet that is what ultimately decides if they go on to the post season.

Since OH went to 8 teams per region, this doesn't happen much, if at all.

It is the coach's and the AD's responsibility to schedule well correct; if they don't do it, they need to be replaced.

And here I was trying to figure out which wall it would look best on. Thanks for getting my hopes up! :irked: :lol:

I agree Dixie would have a legit chance most years to compete for a state 5A championship whereas there is very little realistic chance now.

That's why the 6 class set-up with fewer teams in 6A and 1A is good if you are going with more than 4 classes.
