6 Classes in football

As many as it takes. :fire:

Honestly, I'm not sure. It would be something that has to be adjusted almost every year as well. Look at Bellevue this year. I believe last year they had around mid 30's and this year around mid 50's. Would it've been right for them to play with smaller schools. You'd have to adjust with coaching changes as well. HHS went from about 30 to 70 when Mueller came along. We would've loved to play in 1A. :D

Yeah, the more I've thought about it, the more impossible it would be. Next suggestion please. :D

You actually had to think about that one?

Yeah, I wasn't taking this whole thread very serious and that idea never occurred to me, now I know why. :D

From what I've heard, the coaches around the state are very serious about 6 classes. Its not just something they're talking about.

Also, they want to change it a bit and use male enrollment as the basis vs total enrollment as it is now.

Also, the 6 classes would be broken into 3 and 4 team districts. Travel is going to be an issue.

The class system proposal is a"fix" for the public/private mess.Tenn. uses a formula that multiplies a schools enrollment by 1.5 times if they have an open enrollment policy and take ATHELETES FROM OTHER COUNTIES OR STATES. This is more feasible only if there are more classes. Also has anyone ever considered classing by # of male students

in male sports, female students in female sports?

Not if it is only 3 or 4 district games. The remainder could be scheduled against local or normally scheduled opponents. I don't think it would be any worse, maybe better for some teams.

When you're narrowing it down by size, its harder to get teams close to each other that are of similar size. Easy in NKY but hard in EKY.

BTW, Dixie and CCH are together in one early possible alignment.

I would love that. I think we would hang just fine with the big dogs. :D Add HHS to it, and it would be even better. :thumb:

My point is those teams are playing people now, why can't they keep the same schedule minus 3 district games. One year you travel to two district teams, next you travel to one. What's the problem with that? Heck, some of the district games would probably be against the same teams they play now anyway.

You're assuming those teams would still want to play teams that were previously required. Think Grant County will still schedule CCH and HHS? Bracken will never see NKY.

Teams like Bracken and Grant because of their location have a ways to travel no matter what. Schedule Lloyd, Ludlow, Dayton, Newport, Holmes, or somebody else in NKY if you don't want to face CCH and Highlands anymore. Or go south or east to find games, those two teams are in the middle of nowhere when it comes to scheduling, district change or not.

Classifying gender specifically makes complete sense; OH has been doing that for years. They also reclassify every year; KY may have a problem with that due to district play being directly linked to the playoffs. OH's leagues aren't tied to the playoffs.

2 cents worth from the Dawg......"If you can't run with the big dogs take your ball and go home" I don't want a watered down championship. I am content the way it is now, I do think they need to figure out the enrollment issues that we see every now and then. I think you need to base Classes more on the average amount of kids that play football. Holmes for example is in 4A and we get the amount of kids out for football as a 1-2A school. When you get 30-40 year in and year out, how are you supposed to compete with schools that get 80-100 kids to chose there atheletes from. By the way I am not whining, I just think somethings nead to be looked at to solve the issue other than creating 2 more classes.

How about the coach recruiting his own school like every good coach should do????? That is part of the job description.

Some kids just need a little push and a little love(hint: Yeagle's & Mueller's secret).

I'm not sure how much difference it would make, but the largest size differences are in 1A and 4A. How about putting the 32 largest schools in 5A, the 32 smallest schools in 1A and dividing the rest evenly? There would still be a big size difference from top to bottom in 1A and 5A, but I don't see how to get around that. Under the five round playoff system, 32 is the minimum number of teams per class.
