Empty Nesters

I agree with not getting another dog. The best thing about no animals is you and your spouse can pick up and go when you want!

Well, we already had four cats in the house, so the addition of a Shi-Poo wasn't going to significantly cramp our traveling style - such as it is - much more.:D

My parents always seem to be disappointed when I leave. Guess they're wanting a bouncing 40-year-old baby to keep things hoppin' at the homestead.

It's wonderful. Enjoy it! You have earned it.

It is. I love my kids, but it's been great since they moved out, the second time. :D

The nest doesn't always have to be empty...

I am feeling a party with some of your neighbors :D might keep the nest hopping! TOGA TOGA....

PS: You can borrow our last child that is only a freshman every once and a while!

Thanks but no thanks LD! One teenage girl was plenty for me. I still have the battle scars!

I travel with my dog. :D Whither I go, he goes. And I wouldn't have it any other way!

Was at a function a couple of years ago, as we had just become "empty nesters", discussing the same topic, and one of the girls there said something I thought really hit the nail on the head--She said she and her husband were sitting there several months after the kids were gone to school and she said she finally looked over at her hubby and said "We've chased these kids to their activities for 12 years--Now we've got to learn to DATE each other again"!!

Ours was more like 20, but I tend to agree with this statement.

My youngest left for EKU this month. That gives me 2 at EKU, 1 at Western, and 1 at Lindsey Wilson College. The nest is quite and very empty for me and my wife.

With 4 in college I dont see how you can afford a nest, lol.

Beechwoodfan, Henry and I are empty nesters also this year. There is the obvious disadvantage of not having a child in the house any more and missing both of them. Then again.....tools are were I put them; stuff doesn't just get dropped around the house (unless I'm doing it :p) and garage; I'm not tripping over fishing rods and hunting gear near as often; don't have to stay up late worrying about when they are out or be awakened when they come home and check in; food bill goes down (well not really, it's really just shifted); farm house doors don't go unlocked; the local pizza vendors are upset, parking spots in front of the house are easier to find; waters and Gatorades won't be consumed in massive quantities by football buddies coming over to spend time (actually, I missed it when my older son's high school buddies stopped dropping by a couple of times a week and I'm sure I'll feel the same about not having my younger son's friends just walking in the house and chatting with us on their way downstairs but Henry will miss that even more. Poor kids, she always made them stop and spend time talking to her about Highlands football every time they came over); etc., etc.

My sister and her husband are heading out of town next week. Henry has already talked about having our three nephews walk over to our house after school/football practice so she can cook them dinner and spoil them. She (I should say, I) may have a problem with the empty nest thing.

While Henry and I both have a lot of "extra curriculars" in our lives, the fact is we will definitely be spending a lot more time together, with Henry not having a child to spoil and incessently cater to. I hope Henry can handle the two of us spending more time together. :D Heck, I hope I can handle it. :taz: If not, I'll be spending more time at the farm and Henry will take more frequent ski trips to Utah. Isn't love grand!:thumb:

Man, you can go to their house and eat food and leave it out. You can put your feet on their tables and leave dirty clothes everywhere. Also, be sure to turn every light on at their house (assuming they live off campus) w/ the TV blaring. Finally, I would find something fun to do. My wife loves Yoga, and there is a place on Dixie that she prefers to go to.

Lol! Last year I went to visit my son during mom's weekend. He lives in a house with 3 other young men. The other moms were busying themselves with cleaning and straightening. You can BET, I sat on the couch and pretended I didnt notice a THING out of order. Let the boys cook too! That was fun!
