Empty Nesters

Featured Replies

All 3 kids away at college. For the first time in 21 years we have no children in the house. I don't like it.

Can anybody tell me the plus side of being an empty nester?

:puke:

Well, I don't know if I technically qualify, since my daughter lives with me. BUT...she's literally never here when I'm awake, so I think I can kinda have a pass on the technicality?

If if weren't for my dog and volunteer activities, I'd have probably become a pathetic individual.

Its a tough thing. We have 2 in college or graduated and my baby girl is a senior so she is gone a lot also. One night my wife and I discovered that, for the first time in our lives, we now know when certain TV shows are aired and the channel that they are on and we were never really TV people. I sure dont have any advice for you. All I can say is thank goodness for cell phones and free long distance!

It is a tough adjustment,RM. My sons are at EKU and my daughter and her husband live about an hour away. I only see them on weekends usually. I see my daughter a bit more now, since I became a Grandfather in July. Just keep yourself busy,RM. And,like Scribe said.enjoy the extra food.

Beechwoodfan, just because your kids are in college doesn't mean they will never come home or live at home again. Try to enjoy just you and your spouse for awhile. Your water bill should go down also.

We are going through it too. Our youngest just bought his 1st house and moved out a few months ago. And I don't like it either. Still trying to adjust.

I love having Grandkids. I love having time to just do something for myself and my spouse like getting to know each other again. I love seeing them succeed on their own. I LOVE having them come home. I have a hole under my heart when they leave. I love having them gone.

I don't know, 5 kids under the age of 13 in my house--empty nest sounds kind of good!

This is the third year that our daughter has been in college (son has been away for many years). Georgetown is barely over an hour away, so we visit a lot; but it's still way different at home.

We did get a puppy a few weeks before her first year at school.:D

Definately NO Puppy! We have an old dog and when she is gone we will be dog free for the first time in our lives. We want to be free to take off whenever we may want to go!

Had a nice quiet weekend, the house is still clean, and I spent very little at the grocery store. I am trying to look at the good side of this situation, as I have no choice.
