ColonelMike, I read the original post. I'm no English scholar, but it appears that John Hardin, as well as LCA, fit the parameters of this thread's topic.

I see where you're coming from, Bluto - and we can both read into the question what we want, perhaps jbwill2 can clarify his initial intent - but I read the question as to mean what schools have improved over the ten year period (2000-2009) the most, as compared to where they were in the previous decade?

When you read it that way, schools like Lone Oak, Fort Campbell, and Central would certainly jump out as meeting the criteria. JH and LCA - since there is no previous time to compare to - didn't meet the criteria IMO.

Since JH has been competitive on a regional scale since almost Day 1, it's hard for me to classify them as "dramatically" improved, anyway...

But again, jbwill2 may say that you are understanding the question better than I....

This school couldn't compete on a regular basis with the schools that were in lower classes in the 90's (paintsville amongst others) and now most smaller schools will not consider playing them. They were one of the most underproductive teams in the area now they are amongst the best in the state. They are the real deal and they define what improving a program means. New Stadium, New coaching philosophy, New pride in the program and new results.

How about Johnson Central? I had never even heard of the school untill they played CCH in 2006.

In the west, it is clearly Lone Oak ... when Jack Haskins took the job in 2004, Lone Oak had exactly one winning record in the previous 19 seasons. Haskins went 6-5, 5-5, 5-5 and then made the magical run to the state championship game in 2007. When Haskins got there, Lone Oak had one playoff win in its history ... now it's played for a state title in two of the last three years.

:thumb: I think Lone Oak from the West and Johnson Central from the East are the two I think of. I think there has to be a history of "not making it" to go with the question.

For example if it were 2000 the obvious answer imo would be Boyle County. From 1-9 to 15-0 in '99 and '00.

Louisville Central

That was my first thought as well.

The 2001 Lone Oak Purple Flash scored 19 points the whole season while allowing 518 points. Needless to say they finished the year 0-10. Since Jack Haskins took over in 2004, the Purple Flash have not endured a losing season & have went 14-1 twice (2007 & 2009). Next question please ?

It feels good to win games on Friday nights after losing for so long, Lone Oak will be closing in style.

I'd think Metcalfe Co or Monroe Co may fit the bill, as well.

What about Lafayette? Seems like the Mike Harmon years showed improvement.

#1 Lone Oak

#2 Ft. Campbell (Only 2A team to win three in a row in the history of KY football and also 2 Mr. Football selections for this small school during the last 5 years)

#3 Monroe County (A few years ago they only won 2 games in the season, followed it up with two consecutive semi-final appearances and I don't think they have hit their peak yet.)

Thanks FalconBacker for the shout. I agree with all three of your picks!!! I feel us down here in the bottom of the state don't exactly get the same looks as the north...lol

West-Loan Oak

East-Johnson Central

Lville-Central

Lex-LCA

North-?

Lone Oak and Fort Campbell are two that come to mind having done zero research on the issue. I'll admit I knew nothing about LO going into our game with them in the state championship last year. Man, was that ever a learning experience. Those dudes are awesome.:thumb:

I would have to say that SK probably has to be in the top 5 for this discussion if not top 3. They're yet to win a state championship but do have an appearance, and have if you compare the last 10 years to the last 30 you would almost think SK is cheating. In all fairness compare classes and not too many have to play a team that has over decades been as consistant as T and X, perhaps throw in Male too. In no way saying SK is set to be a great program but under Marksberry they've DEFINITELY turned things around.
