NKYMSFL 2010

Featured Replies

So what are they trying to accomplish with those types of rules? I'm curious. NKYFL you can blitz at will and/or adjust however you deem necessary week in and week out. When these kids move to freshman and high school ball guess what? Teams are gonna blitz and adjust defensively each week to the offense they are facing to try to stop it. IMO this rule is not developing the kids in any shape or form it's only just delaying the inevitable. Don't most these kids come from Youth leagues anyways? I understand a rule is rule and it should be followed but this is one that needs to be removed going forward.

Plus the blitz rule is impossible for the refs to review. The coaches always just say the players are reading the play.

I am not sure I would use the NKYFL as a guideline for anything other than how to turn 50 player midget rosters into 15 player senior rosters.

VERY fair point - a lot of that has to do with coaching though and those with their own personal agenda's :0). I'm just trying to understand what the point of having such a rule is for middle school ball is all? If you have the talent and need to adjust then the coaches should have that option to put their team in the best position to win.

NKMSFBL RULES FOR DEFENSE:

7. Defenses to run by a team must be declared prior to the season and remain

unchanged for the course of the season with no defense having more than six (6) down

linemen on the line of scrimmage. An exception to this is on situations of 4th down and short

yardage (2 yards or less) or goal line when a team may go to a goal line front of no more than

six (6) down linemen on the line of scrimmage. Defensive lineman must be within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage and no further than 2 yards outside of the Tight End or Offensive Tackle, whichever one is furthest from the ball.

8. No blitzing, twisting, or stacking on defense. Linebacker/Defensive Backs must be a

minimum of 3 yard of the line of scrimmage (not moving toward it) when the ball is

snapped.

Rules are rules, they are meant to be followed. No sour grapes or anything...but rule 8 was thrown out the window last week by Newport and on Saturday evening. The LB's & DB's were packed in the box at least 3 out of 4 downs at most 3 yards off the ball.... Both games were very good and the kids played very hard on both sides of the ball. You hate to see either team lose! Newport has a very talented group of players and the team is much improved from last year. Good luck to the Breds on Saturday!

Um wrong. Newport had 4 down lineman and their 4 lbs were 3 yards off the ball which is all they have to be. They did not cheat or break any rules. Why were they forced to go to a 3-4 instead of the 4-4 defense in which they submitted to the league at the beginning of the year and the AD has proof of this in emails. The Newcath coaches cried about it because as 90 percent running team they couldnt run the ball at the beginning of that game so they pulled some crap and made them switch defenses. Its on the idiot league directors as much as anyone for allowing this to happen. If there was concern why wasnt anything said last week when the two teams played? Could have been worked out before the playoff game but instead the Newport kids were cheated out of a fair game which is the sad part.

Interesting information...if teams are following the rules then nothing needs to be said. I did not imply that they cheated, they were playing good aggressive defense by lining up 2 yards off the ball and the DB's coming in on the weak side the moment the ball was snapped. In the heat of battle kids are inclined to inch their way up anticipating the run if they can. I suggest the AD ensure that he attends the next coaching/rules meeting to ensure Newport is not cheated next season. Once again, 2 great games and it is unfortunate that anybody had to lose and/or get cheated!

What happens if someone breaks the blitz rule is there a flag, play over or does the play stand?

Usually it isnt to big of a deal, if it happens the teams are usually reminded of the rules and then the coaches take care of it.

The league directors have admitted fault and apologized for what happened last week but said there is nothing they can do now which I agree there really isnt much that can be done. Would be pretty tough to go back and replay the game now and have to delay everything.

The league directors need to get rid of that rule. Let the coaches coach and make adjustments. Are the kids really getting prepared for high school with that rule?

I think the rules are voted on by AD's and coaches in the league. However, it seems like it may be time to take another look at the rules to determine if updates should be made.

Never understood why they needed these rules. Can't they just play football.

I AGREE 100% - VERY VERY SILLY RULE - :0)

absolutely!!

Large School Championship game final.

CovCath repeats as the Large School Champion:

CovCath 22 Turkeyfoot 16

Still don't understand or can't figure out why the Turkeyfoot Coaches just didn't keep handing the ball to young Mr. Owens #32.

Congrats to both school as this was an exciting and fun game to watch.

Definitely exciting game - CovCath created 5 turnovers and TFMS played from behind most of the 2nd half - anyhow I agree 100% - Owens runs extremely hard! - Can't wait to watch him the next 4 years!

Sounds like hes shaping up to be a great player. Wish he would have followed in his brothers footsteps and went to CovCath.
