Hopefully, the Reds can show back up on Wednesday and the Cards' stunning loss will have carryover. A three-game lead would be nice.

You have gotta be kidding me. The kid was pitching great. It wasn't like they were hitting the ball hard, they should've been out of the inning already as it was. We get it, you guys would rather they lose and Dusty get fired then them do well and him stick around, but at least pick intelligent spots to try to make your point.

The fact is that he never gave the team a good chance to keep the game at 1-0 when you just knew that Santana would not give up very many runs. Several questions for YOU here since you SEEM to think YOU know so much about baseball.

 

* Why did he not send the pitching coach or go out himself to calm this young pitcher down at the most critical time of the game?

* Did Maloney not struggle just an inning earlier just trying to put Santana (who had never hit a HR) away?

* Did maloney have a good enough "Out" pitch to be facing a clutch hitter like Jason Bay in this situation?

* If Ondrusek was not warmed up why did he not employ what every other manager in baseball would do to stall until he had him ready?

* If Ondrusek was not ready why not intentionally walk Bay to load the bases and bring him in? If he didn't trust him with the bases loaded he shouldn't have him warming up in a tight game anyway.

 

Do you have any idea how much easier it is to come back from 1-0 than 3-0 especially against a pitcher like Santana? I've said enough.

Absolutely incredible! Never, EVER leave a baseball game early(especially at Coors Field). Redbirds went into the bottom of the ninth ahead 9-3. All the Rockies do is tally 9 runs and win 12-9.

 

Well, that makes up for that one the Redlegs blew to the Braves when the Reds lead 9-3 only to watch Atlanta score 7 in the bottom of the ninth.

Maybe, if just once when they Reds lost, you wouldn't take the copout approach and blame it on Baker, I wouldn't have to bring up how silly you sound.

 

As to your "points":

 

1) There was no reason to send Price out there. He should have been out of the inning already, and knew what he had to do, attack Bay, and get him out. He made a mistake and Bay made him pay.

 

2) No, he didn't struggle to get Santana out. That was a GREAT AB by an opposing pitcher. He fouled, what 7 or 8 straight pitches off? Maloney kept battling against him, and made a mistake pitch. Normally you get away with it against a pitcher, unfortunately, he didn't that time. It happens, no big deal.

 

3) Maloney had a good enough "out pitch" to hold the Mets to 1 run through 5+...And they weren't threatening before the 6th either. I'm fairly confident he had a good enough pitch to retire the "clutch" Jason Bay.

 

4) Because there was no reason to put Ondrusek in yet. Maloney was fine, it wasn't like he was getting pounded all game or even all inning long.

 

5) Same as #4, just because Ondrusek was warming up, doesn't mean he has to come into the game. No reason to take Maloney out yet.

Part of developing a young picther is leaving them in during tough situations. That is exactly what you saw last night IMO.

My goodness gracious, if we are going to blame Dusty for when things go bad, he deserves some credit for the Reds being in 1st place right now. That's how it works. If they win, the players are the reason. If they lose, the manager sucks. All coaches know that is how it works.

It wasn't so much his post, it seems like whenever the Reds lose we have a few people ready to jump in the lifeboat and over analyze everything.

 

Just frustrating at times, I know that's what makes this message board great is that we can agree to disagree and talk about the games. When they lose it was like if this and this and this was done, they could have won. There are some nights where it just doesn't matter, they are going to lose to the better team or better pitcher.

It's b/c Baseball unlike any other sport gives you the most questions as far as fans IMO. The game is so much slower and all the options are available to anyone who knows the sport. If Dusty makes the switch last night and they give up the hit he probably takes the heat for switching from some people. The point EZ made and that I agree w/ is he had a right hander ready or getting ready. Don't the numbers generally support righty vs. righty there especially when the lefty is making his first ML start of the year and had trouble putting guys away? Dusty loves to base his decisions on numbers, but he didn't there. Dusty gets credit for being a players manager. I can't argue w/ that. My guess is Maloney now knows Dusty trusts him. That may pay off in the long run, but I'd have made the switch there too or at least made the next guy beat me if the pitcher wasn't ready.
