As a fan that has been miserable from mid-July until the end of the season for the last 15 years, I'd rather enjoy this team and the way they are playing than try to find every little thing that they are doing wrong.

Some fans cheer...others are critics. Whatever floats your boat I guess, but I'd rather cheer and remain positive than get frustrated about something every game (And so no one jumps all over this to defend their negative posts, I'm not directly referring to anyone).

Good baseball players fail 70% of the time. I'm not to worried about a few games in a row when we didn't convert with a runner at 3rd and less than 2 outs. They are one of the best teams in MLB at hitting with RISP and 2 outs so it's not that much of a concern IMO.

I can't believe you've never heard that. That's unbelievable. It's literally just as effective, if not more effective than a routine sacrifice fly.

 

While I have said that I think you complain too much, you are 1000000% correct here. The easiest RBI in baseball is runner on third and less than 2 outs. Any ground ball to shortstop or 2nd will score the runner 99.9999%. Most of the time a routine ground ball to 1st will score the runner and about 50% of the time a ground ball to third will. I can't believe crash davis hasn't heard of it either lol

Um, he specifically stated to "the right side". It's common sense to know that a ground ball to the middle of the field (pass the pitcher) can create a run, however "right side" is not accurate.

 

As stated, it depends on where the defense is playing. I hardly doubt that with less than two outs the 3rd baseman will be playing behind the bag, and I don't think I'd take a 50% chance to score knowing you still have an out or two. And, AGAIN, if there's a righty up and the 1st baseman is in there's no way a runner from third scores. Which was my problem with simply stating "right side".

The best part is if the Reds were 10 games under .500 this thread would have about 15 posts in it. :lol:

The Reds are interested in Cliff Lee, but the Twins put together a pretty good offer & it looks like the M's have not accepted it.

I tend to agree. While I'd LOVE to have Lee there's a part of me that wants to see how far this team can go. I'm especially not a fan of giving up a prospect like Wood for a 3 month rental (I only leave Alonzo out because it looks like 1B will be okay for a while.). Although, if they pull the trigger on it I'll probably be fine with it.

Both of those players numbers in the minors are far from impressive.

The 1st baseman plays in maybe 10% of the time, if not less. The only time would be late in the game or with a stud pitcher throwing for the other team. So yes, a ground ball anywhere except right at the 3rd baseman will work.

Exactly, it depends on the situation. Not sure where the arbitrary 10% comes from.

 

Just let it go. Apparently the high school and college coaches I played for, and learn from, are clueless.

While I would like to have Cliff Lee, he is a phenomenal pitcher that is better than anyone the Reds have, there are more glaring needs. The Reds could use some outfield help or a utility infielder to help give guys like Cabrera, Rolen, and Gomes some breaks. Maybe a guy like Uribe from the Giants or Wigginton from the Orioles.

 

Don't forget the Nats have put Adam Dunn on the market!! :laugh:
