He then went on to describe pushing the development of O-linemen down to the lower levels. That is why for years I have thought their O-linemen have footwork far superior to most other schools. I would be very surprised if that was a weak link in 2010.

It seems like every year on this thread ,Highlands O line is the big question mark. Then every year , the O line is outstanding, especially last year. You would think by now that people should not be concerned about the O line , as history has proved , they will be ready when needed. On the other hand , if the O line is the only question , then the rest of the team must be pretty solid . Go Birds 20n10 !

One thing I've noticed is that the HHS coaching staff has done a good job in recent years of having a nice mix of seniors and underclassmen get varsity playing time for the offensive skill positions. However, it seems to me (from my distant vantage point) that there is a lot less rotating of the offensive linemen... the starting five are pretty much the guys who play. Perhaps this is why a lot of people start off the season with the same basic concern: how the relatively inexperienced offensive line willl play.

 

However, I think most would agree that in recent years the offensive line has been one of the main strengths of the team.

The first 5 linemen will be really good this year what concerns me is if someone get hurt. I don't know if they have a 6th linemen. I have been to a few practices and I haven't seen who they will put in there.

You can bet the farm that coach Turner has a few "extra " O lineman , just waiting to take over in case of injuries. I also wouldn't be surprised if the replacement is just as talented and not one of the biggest kids on the team. Remember , the players from the fort all come from the same mold.( FTJFL)

 

Finally, is the only coaching change for the HHS staff Vilardo leaving and Lorenzen coming in? Is Lorenzen referred to as the "quarterbacks coach?"

 

That is exactly how Dale introduced him to all of us at the Marvin Lewis camp. He seems to have a nice relationship with Towels, he jokes with him but stays on him to the bone. Patrick looked awesome down at the stadium.

I know that they never have the biggest linemen I just didn't know who if anyone they had in mind that's all.

I heard tha Austin Hollingsworth looked especially good at a 1 day linemans camp this past weekend. This kid is a nice size kid who could pose a serious threat on the Defensive line this yr for the Birds. 6'2 or 6'3 and built like Highland's defensive backs and runs like them too. Wow!! How much does he weigh? Has he put on weight? He isn't very big in the weight category..

Not real sure on the wt. But I want to say 215 to 220 range. He is put together with alot of growing left to do. Will definately contribute this yr on defense. Go Birds 20n10

He has grown about 5-6" since last year and has put on 40 pounds. Still growing with great speed and hands. O-Line's will not like him much plus no one has ever seen him play. Another great move by the Coach Weinric to get the best kids on the field somewhere

Sorry jb, I don't know the answers to your questions. The picture will get clearer as we get closer to the season. I will say that McCoy is a very talented athlete and with the two platooning this year, it won't surprise me to see McCoy and some other sophomores get quality time with the starters.
