I thought KY High School teams were not allowed to participate in 7 on 7 during the month of June this year. Is this because it is a College invitation, or is there some other reason this doesn't fall under that umbrella?

1x-that's all I will say. The greatest win in Highlands history in my opinion. Highlands record is very poor vs. the gcl south. I agree play the gcl schools annually, but don't whine when you lose 9 out of 10 times.

 

Again-I ask-why doesn't Highlands play X and Trinity, and I ask it from both sides. Why not really decide who is best in the state? X and Trinity play every year-as they should based on size and locale.

This isn't a team event. Just some of the guys going to Notre Dame for a 7 on 7 tournament. No coaches participating, only players and their families headed to South Bend.

Bingo. No Highlands coaches are participating in any way. It's really no different than players going to clinics or combines during the dead period or a group of them getting together to work out/condition at the local gym during the dead period without their coaches attending. Totally within the Dead Period rules as I understand them.

These are kids going up on their own to the camp. This I believe was a parent initiated event. The school or coaching staff at Highlands are not involved.

The case bylaws would seem to preclude the players from wearing any team gear or using the school name.

Some additional info: Under By Law 26.2) (which is the Dead Period provision) there is no mention of any thing of the sort you were told. In fact Case situation 26-11-F) specifically states that members of the same high school team may participate together in outside competition as long as a member of the high school coaching staff does not coach them. There is no mention in the Case situation about the numbers limitation you were told.

 

What a monitoring nightmare it would be if there was a limitation on kids playing together or if there was some numbers limitation. Heck, is 7 on 7 even "football" to begin with? If a group go to the park and toss the ball to one another, is that "football" or if they play a game of tag against a group of kids in the park at the neighboring high school, is that "football"? I think the KHSAA has wisely left it to no coaches permitted during dead period; no use of school facilities and no use of school funds and equipment. Still can be abused, but much easier to monitor than some prohibition of more than x number of kids doing something together during the dead period.
