I apparently have been mis-informed. I was told that one of the 6A schools told their kids that no more than 5 kids from a given school could participate on the same team in the USA today 7 on 7 Tourn in Cincy earlier this year, or it would be considered a Team event. I was told it was similar to an AAU basketball rule that prevents HS teams from playing as an AAU team all year long, even if coached by someone other than a coach. Thank you for clearing this up.

 

And I dont think you are correct here. AAU teams can do whatever they want and would actually let the Head coaches of each team coach those teams if the STATE they participate in allows it. All of these rules are state by state and have nothing to do with special interest or camps or combine rules etc. State enforced rules, Period. So, lets not confuse or conjour up a pointless debate on Highlands 20n10 Thread.

BTW, the kids that attend the public h.s. in Ft Thomas will enjoy their unoffical visit to Notre Dame this weekend. Oh, and by the way they might even get to attend a 1 day camp there as well.

And if they need a helmet or two to be allowed to participate then there are other resources around town that might be able to help out.

Just got word from a parent that HHS will "NOT" be attending the Notre Dame Camp as a team as some have implied. There still may be some individual players going up to do the combines if there are any. Sorry people, but no possible "rules" infractions here. Move on, move on, Nothing to see!

Well, now that we have the whole ND 7/7 behind us (moot issue since they aren't going) and out of our system, I'd like to get back to the Birds this year. As I see it, early in the year it's going to be the defense that will keep us in the games while the O matures. But frankly, that's no different than most years at Highlands. It was that way last year as the game against Manual indicated. I think it will take a little longer this year for the O line to gel, but as others have mentioned, there is talent at those positions and we know how good Coach T is. The O will sputter for a while as the O learns to play as a unit. Plus Dale already knows the strengths and weaknesses of the O as a unit and will tailor the playcalling to emphasize the strengths. Towles is going to be a stud and I think a lot of folks are really going to be surprised with the superb quality of RBs. They are being over looked in the discussion about the best RBs in N. Ky, but Streeter and Compton are going to be one fantastic combination. I shudder to say it, but they may be the best combination of RBs in N. Ky (although CovCath's RBs could challenge them for that honor). Streeter got some carries last year so Ds will be familiar with him, but Compton is going to shock people this season. The kid is the real deal, and I'm not one to overly hype Highlands players (well, maybe every now and then). By the middle of the season, Highlands O will be steamrolling once again.

Those are huge shoes to fill, that's for sure. But the Birds should be pretty darn good at the LBer spot. In addition to Sullivan, there are several other very talented lbers returning that made huge plays last year but were overshadowed by Roller and Alford. Huddleston, Quillen and Seidl quickly come to mind. Nienaber was outstanding last year, but he's an O lineman this year.

 

I will say this: that if Highlands and Johnson Central both advance far enough to make it to the 3rd round this year, there are going to be some serious collisions between Bratton and Sullivan. Both of those kids are put together like brick outhouses. Actually, there will be some serious collisions between Elliott and Sullivan before then. The Sullivan kid is put together well and just loves contact. Heck if he played at Ryle or Boone, he'd probably be a tailback in a power I offense.

Bratton is a rock. I saw him playing summer hoops last week against the Birds, but Sully is much thicker. Bratton was clearing some lanes out though. I hope we get to see that matchup.

Thanks Sweep for that addition. How stupid of me to forget Luke. Particularly in light of the fact I coached him in Jr. Football. Kid is extremely talented and did play well last year. Great kid too. I also agree he looked great in Spring ball. He'll be an impact player this year. He'll be a member of what will be an outstanding Lber corps and defense. Sorry Luke for not mentioning you in my prior post.

I know that Gall is returning as a wide receiver... who else looks to contribute at the WR and TE positions in 2010?

 

Also, will rising sophomore Jac Collinsworth be seeing much varsity playing time this year? Will he continue to play RB?

 

Finally, is the only coaching change for the HHS staff Vilardo leaving and Lorenzen coming in? Is Lorenzen referred to as the "quarterbacks coach?"

Jac has been nursing a sore hammy and he will likely play Jv next year atleast from what I have seen ahead of him.
