Really? That didn't help Larry Brown in NY and he still had 5 years (I think) left on his deal. There is no job security in the NBA unless you're Phil Jackson. Seems that all of these contracts have some way to get out of them or pay less money.

 

Even if he signs for 6 million per for 5 years...and gets fired and bought out at 20 million? Thats security to me. Now, with that being said, I don't know that I would take it. It all depends on what he likes/dislikes about his current job and if he wants the challenge of winning in the NBA. I think Izzo at his age and intelligence could parlay 20 million into a decent retirement somewhere though.

I hope this isn't true because I like Izzo. He would be a fool to leave for Cleveland before knowing what LeBron is going to do IMO. Sure 6 million a year is nice, but there is no job security in the NBA, especially like what he has at Michigan State. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Bingo. He makes three million a year now... 20 mill guaranteed is a HUGE factor.

Seems like the buy outs never give them the full amount of money for what ever reason. I just think it's crazy to take an NBA job, especially the Cavs, if you're a guy like Izzo. You go from being a king at MSU to either LeBron's puppet or one of the scapegoats for LeBron not staying. Either way he could stay at Michigan State for as long as he wants and make up the difference while still being able to coach. If you don't like your team in college, you recruit the kind of players you want. In the NBA you have to draft or sign FA's and Cleveland is not exactly a prime destination for top level talent to want to flock to.

Lets say he doesn't succeed in the NBA.....Who in their right mind wouldn't take a chance on him even after his venture in the NBA. I say smart move if that's what he wants.

I think it is a smart move as long as LeBron is there. A chance to coach an all-time great with a HUGE pay increase... can't blame him if he leaves.

There is just no way that Lebron comes back and plays for a guy with no NBA experience. If by some chance Lebron is involved and gave the okay to pursue Izzo, he won't be getting back to the NBA Finals anytime soon.

The way Izzo's name has popped up so often for jobs over the past couple of years it makes you wonder. If you go back a couple of years, I don't recall his name coming up at all when the big jobs opened up.
