May 24, 201016 yr You will find aerial ticketing in OH. Cops in helicopters will measure your distance between mile markers, then radio it down to cops on the ground. I don't see it very often though.
May 24, 201016 yr I definitely don't have experience in law enforcement, but I don't think that they would be allowed to be parked on private property. I've seen them do this in Woodford Co. In an unmarked car too. Yea, they got me for 45 in a 35 at lunch time.
May 24, 201016 yr Okay...well here is another radar question then? I have always been told that you have the right to ask to see the radar gun, if that is true, how does that work if the radar gun is in the sky? Or, am I wrong in saying that you are allowed to see the gun?
May 24, 201016 yr I know we have a few people here in law enforcement. Years ago, I had always wondered why police officers didn't tuck themselves back a hidden drive to catch people speeding. I had heard that they don't, because they have to be visible by so many feet in either direction. Is this true? I've noticed lately that some Independence police officers have found themselves some nice little hiding spots along 17 and Turkeyfoot. You do not see them until you pass right in front of them when it's too late. Wait until the new jail opens.... They will be everywhere on 17!!!! It's a good thing for us though. Maybe we won't suffer such a loss of fuel and equipment that is stolen off our trucks on a weekly basis with the Police right in our back yard every other hour.
May 24, 201016 yr I got a ticket in IN right across the bridge on 65 this weekend. He was literally walking out and holding his hand up for people to stop. Seemed very stupid and dangerous to me.
May 24, 201016 yr They can "hide" wherever they want within their city limit/jurisdiction. Don't speed! I do know for Independence, when people call and complain about speeders in a certain area, the police will buff up that area.
May 25, 201016 yr Okay...well here is another radar question then? I have always been told that you have the right to ask to see the radar gun, if that is true, how does that work if the radar gun is in the sky? Or, am I wrong in saying that you are allowed to see the gun? Simple answer, No, but most Officers will show you the speed.
May 25, 201016 yr I hate speed limits. Aggressive drivers are much more dangerous than those of us who simply can't drive 55 when there are no/very few other cars on the road.
May 26, 201016 yr You can hide wherever you want, you can sit on private property with the permission of the property owner, no you don't have a right to see the radar, if you don't make eye contacted when you are being ordered over be prepared for additional charges, and honesty is the best policy in my opinion.
May 26, 201016 yr Here's another question. I've always heard that police aren't allowed to use radar when it's raining. Something about it being dangerous because people will see a police car and hit the breaks and possibly spin out and cause an accident. Any truth to that? In my experiences, it's always best to be honest. I've only been pulled over for speeding 2 times in my life, but each time, I admitted that I was an out-of-towner and didn't know what the speed limit was. Once was at night in Woodford Co. on a road I had never driven before, the other was at night in Oldham Co. and snow had covered the speed limit sign. We even drove back down the road after being pulled over, because I was in disbelief that there was a speed limit sign there. I've also learned that it's pretty handy if you know the officer who pulls you over. I've seen people get out of tickets several times just because they knew the officer or someone the officer worked with.
