May 23, 201016 yr I know we have a few people here in law enforcement. Years ago, I had always wondered why police officers didn't tuck themselves back a hidden drive to catch people speeding. I had heard that they don't, because they have to be visible by so many feet in either direction. Is this true? I've noticed lately that some Independence police officers have found themselves some nice little hiding spots along 17 and Turkeyfoot. You do not see them until you pass right in front of them when it's too late.
May 23, 201016 yr It depends on the area, if it's a hill ect. ect. I just don't like when they sit in a trap.... my bestfriend is an Independence officer, I tease him all the time about speed traps. He's a good guy, if you don't give him an attitude you have a good chance of confessing to your mistake.

Are you trying to say if you admit to your speeding he's more likely to let you off?
May 23, 201016 yr Author Let me clarify that I am not complaining about it. I always thought those spots were perfect areas for them to hide. I was just curious if what I've been told in the past was true or a line of poo.
May 23, 201016 yr One spot that use to aggrevate me was on going into Somerset from 75. At night, the officers would pull onto the shoulder, turn their lights off and run radar. I beleive that this is very dangerous for the officer and moving traffic. What if a vehicle had to pull onto the shoulder for an emergency and didnt see the police car until it was too late? There should be a rule that they need to keep their lights on even at night.
May 23, 201016 yr I do not believe there are any requirements that an officer be visible when running radar. As long as the radar itself can do its job without interference they can be anywhere. Heck, I got a ticket once by radar from an airplane. He obviously wasn't visible.
May 23, 201016 yr Are they allowed to park on private property and use radar on cars going down the road?

May 24, 201016 yr Are they allowed to park on private property and use radar on cars going down the road? I definitely don't have experience in law enforcement, but I don't think that they would be allowed to be parked on private property.
May 24, 201016 yr Interesting. Care to elaborate? Happens a lot in Ohio. I was north of Kings Island heading south and a police officer was standing in the emergency lane and waved me over. Up ahead there were other police cars writing tickets to those of us who were waved over. They were running radar from a plane above.

So what happens if you never made eye contact with the police officer?

When the cop pulled her over she said I was going with the flow of traffic and he told her you weren't speeding now, but 20 miles ago you were.
