To be fair I am 31 and have just seriously got involved at looking at politics in about the past 3 years.

I voted for Clinton because he was a Democrat and I thought they knew the way, I voted for Gore because of the same.

 

I voted for Bush the 2nd time because I realized what the Democrats where about.

 

I voted for McCain because he was the lesser of 2 evils.

 

I like the Tea Party and what they stand for but I don not like the way some of them act nor am I a "Palin for President" person.

One of my former step fathers, a staunch Kentucky and Frankfort DEMOCRAT would never have voted for Obama because of his race. So there is SOME racism in the opposition to him. It has to be discussed.

Yeah, so what? Always has been, always will be, on both sides. Every time someone opposes Obama, the left cries racism, which is why I point out that the left is not ready for a black president. It's constant. Just look at CoachBuckett's post.

And some only voted for him because of race. Like it or not, it does cut both ways. Are there some who don't like Obama because of his race? Absolutely. Are there some who didn't like Bush because of his race? Absolutely. I know folks who only voted for Obama because of his race just as I know others who voted against him for the same reason. If we are going to truly be honest here, we have to realize that.

 

I would just once like to see an argument where those who oppose Obama's ideas are not labeled as racists and those who are in favor of his ideas not labeled as socialists. But I guess that isn't gonna happen.

Regardless of which "side" you place yourself, you have to give Habib credit for laying it out about as well as it can be.

 

I agree that all should be involved. All should pay attention. All should question the need for spending and taxes.

 

However, it certainly raises the eyebrow for some that taxes and spending JUST became in issue starting on January 20, 2009.

I don't agree that it has just become an issue. People have always complained about their taxes, there have been protests in the past, before Obama. The Tea Party is an group of people that are just fed up now, they started being fed up while Bush was in office. Things are starting to reach the tipping point with many. The Tea Party has a problem with the Republicans as well as the Dems, but the news likes to paint them in a light of being Republicans. Not exactly the case.

Sorry Ace, but racism is not the reason for dissatifaction with our President. The Left are the ones preoccupied with race.

The Tea Party has been around for years. They just changed the name from the KKK.

Probably because of the crazy stuff that happens and is said at the rallies. Like the one last weekend in South Carolina. Speeches like:

 

• Send Obama back to Kenya
  
• Get your guns and go to D.C. (that from a preacher, no less)
  
• Lindsey Graham is gay and that's why he hates his country.
  

I know everyone in the Tea Party isn't like this, but this crazy, end-of-the-world, hate-filled, Chicken Little stuff happens time and again when they get together.

My only complaint of the Tea Party is that it is being hijacked, if it hasn't already been hijacked, by the conservative, right-wing, Republican Party.

 

The idea is great...financial responsibility and accountability from our government.

 

But, Sarah Palin is the keynote speaker at many of these rallies. For me personally, it does no favors for the Tea Party if they want to be taken seriously. Instead, they're marginilizing themselves.

I was in Washington last week. I spoke briefly with a family that was walking to the Mall to join the Tax Day gathering. They carried an traditional American Flag and the Don't Tread on Me flag. They did not carry the Stars and Bars. We drive by the gathering on the Mall. Lots of Stars and Stripes and lots of Don't Tread on Me flags. No Stars and Bars.

 

Those that believe that racism is part of the Tea Party core are greatly misguided.

 

 

 

 

 

There was racism under all of the flags you mentioned. Even more so under the Stars and Stripes so, to me, flags don't mean that a person is a racist. That is especially true for the Stars and Bars battle flag of the Confederacy.

I agree Clyde. There is a lot of irony if we look at the last two Presidents. Under Bush spending is out of control and government expanded tremendously. Under Clinton, the size of government reduced and he eliminated the federal deficit. Please remind me, who is the conservative and who is the liberal? :lol: :popcorn:

Neither Republicans nor Democrats have proven to be conservative with regards to fiscal issues or the size of government. The only differ on what they want to spend my money on and how they want to expand the government.

 

The only aspect where you get a true conservative vs. liberal contrast is social issues...pro-life/pro-choice, gay marriage, etc.

"Just fed up now" is the issue. Why now? Did we hear of the TEA party from 2000 to 2008?

 

That's the problem. I have no problem with them saying we spend too much and are taxed too much. I doubt if many people have a problem with that.
