Why All The Vitriol For The Tea Party?

Featured Replies

Here's an idea:

If only property owners get to vote, then that would relieve all renters of the burden of taxes. I mean...if I can't vote, no one can claim I have representation.

You say that being sarcastic, but in reality very few non-homeowners actually pay taxes.

Not sure I buy that one. Not everybody who rents lives below the poverty line. Some of us move around a lot because of our jobs, making buying a home impractical.

You have got to be kidding me . . . Get out of Kentucky a little bit, for a day or two.

But you ignore the rest of what I had to say, of why the Tea Party exits today. More effort to distort the truth of the present day situation.

I asked a simple question and you answered it. The rest is rationalization. I'm not saying they are wrong to be concerned about spending and taxes. They chose to wait until a D got in. Its natural to ask why.

I know many on BGP like to avoid responding to my posts, and I can understand why sometimes. I’m sure I won’t gain any responders on this one. Anyway, my thoughts as to “why now” are this.

1.FAITH. It’s obvious (by the results of the election) lots of people had faith in BHO. The media portrayed him as Messiah-Like and they bit.

ent. This country may just be smack dab in the middle of its finest hour.

I guarantee you less than 10% of TEA Party members voted for President Obama and I'm willing to bet I'm probably 9.9 percentage points too high.

Do you really think the last paragraph is true? I recall reading and hearing a lot of really conservative folks saying they would not vote for McCain and that they despised him. I'd venture a lot of the Tea Party folks are some of the same conservatives that loathed McCain. Which if true, undermines the racism motivation as well as the fact they were silent on the issues until Obama became President.

You may not have heard of the formal Tea Party until after Obama got elected, but a lot of staunch conservatives were complaining strongly and frequently about Bush's spending decisions pretty early in his second term. My guess is that once the Republicans nominated McCain, the staunch conservatives "gave up" on the Republican Party and started working on the formation of the Tea Party. The Health Reform disaster (my opinion) has only served to galvanize their opposition to Obama.

I think it's very unfair and inaccurate for people to say that a whole lot of folks weren't upset with the out of control federal spending until Obama got elected.

To answer your first question, yes.

I didn't say people weren't upset with spending and taxes under Bush , I said that no one organized and formed a political action group to protest and have rallies promoted by Fox News.

No, but it's worse now, really over the last 6 years or so. But people still protested then, there just wasn't a Tea Party.

I must have missed the massive news coverage of said protests. I will say that I did read columnists who criticized President Bush but in no way did I see any organized effort.

Really? I pay taxes on my car; I pay income taxes. I pay into social security, medicare, state income taxes, sales taxes.....

Just because I don't own a home doesn't mean I don't pay taxes.

Also, being a homeowner doesn't make me irresponsible. I made choices. Everyone's situation is different. Some people don't buy homes because they know they can't afford a mortgage. Others because they move around alot and buying and selling a home makes it difficult to move quickly. In my case, I chose to use all the money I could have put toward buying a home to educate my kids. It was the right choice for me.

You people crack me up.

You people crack me up.

I believe we need to only allow property owners the opportunity to vote.

If someone can trick a bank into giving them a mortgage so that they can completely overextend themself, then we reward them with running the country. Great idea. :ohbrother:

I said property owners, not homeowners. The fact of the matter is that there is a growing percentage of people that are not paying income taxes. The percentage in the country is over 40% and rushing towards 50%. Those that don't pay always vote for a free handout, why wouldn't they? The problem for them becomes a time close to now when the payors say that's it we're done carrying the load for you-you are on your own. Because of generations of this learned behavior, they will not know any other way or what to do. An example is a Lion. Thre are Lions in the wild and Lions at the zoo. Nobody can argue that the beast is a Lion, but what is different are their survival skills. The Lion in the jungle figures out a way to make it or perishes. The Lion at the zoo waits for the zookeeper to come by every day and bring him his food.

A fair tax is a plausible idea. I am not trying to be hard hearted here, but for crying out loud America has lost her way, and the great sucking sound you hear is the taxation out the wazoo. No pay=no vote to my way of thinking. If you don't have a stake in the game, it is easy to spend other peoples money. Look at the government.

Tune into Dave Ramsey (a financial guru) and he can help you in about twelve weeks figure things out, but you have to want to change behavior, not just say you are going to do it. Members of Congress should tune in to get us out of this sinkhole of debt.

Yeah I make $20,000 per year and I'd like to sign up for that $500,000 house. Well we have to be fair and give everybody a shot. That was Barney Frank and Chris Dodd's thinking (and by the way-they were paid off handsomely)-so in reality the ones who created the mess indeed were elected into office.:madman:

Nice try at spinning this, but you brought a group well known for racism above all else into this, now you want to cry foul.

Yes, at the same level. Have you forgotten all the Kill Bush signs and such?

Yeah, you're right, Bush got off easy...

Not trying to spin anything. WHen I think of the KKK, I think of the hate this one group had for several different groups. Now because your mind says race, doesn't mean mine does.

Let me ask you a couple of questions:

1. Would you agree that Bush started the bail out before Obama?

2. Would you agree that in 1993 the Republican party started a plan for Health Care?

If you answer yes to these questions, then my next question is why are you so angry for Obama carrying out plans that Republicans began?

C'mon now, how many people have you met in your life who own property but not a home?
