Neither did Farmer, Feldhaus, Pelphry or Woods

I agree. I wouldn't have put them up there either.

I think deserving too but posted it to get the point brought out that a Hall of Fame statiscal career is not 100% relevant.

Isn't Patrick in the top 20 of scorer? Maybe even higher.

He also stuck around a year in which he could have bailed, not to mention it deferred to the freshmen to be a better team when he could have demanded more touches on offense.

I thought he should have took on more of a leadership role this year, instead of deferring to a freshman. That was actually one of my knocks.

I think that is a valid point.

I feel the opposite. If Patterson didnt' handle things the way that he did, they wouldn't have had the year that they did.

I love Delk and Hayes as much as the next guy. I'd love to see their jersies hanging in the rosters too, but in my opinion Patterson should no matter what. We will have more players like Tony Delk and Chuck Hayes...guys like Patterson are rare.

Could you expand on this? I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

Takes 4 years in my opinion, and that goes for anywhere. But that's just me.

So UNC should never retire the jerseys of Worthy or Jordan?

At UK: no Mashburn and no Patterson?

At Georgia there should never be one for Dominique Wilkins?

Oh, and don't forget Duke where there would never be a banner for J. Williams or Elton Brand?

Just checking. :idunno:

No Rex Chapman either.

Nope, that's just my opinion though. They can play an important roll in a programs history, but retired jersey's are something different. I also think all to often any more jersey's are retired way too easy, comparatively speaking. Obviously what these guys did wasn't easy or we'd all be stars.

Nice guy with great qualities but he did not have a hall of fame career, per se.

Same could be said for some others already up there.

But let's see his resume:

97 games played

1564 points scored Ranked #13 All Time 16 pts. per game

791 rebounds Ranked #13 All Time 8.1 reb. per game

All-SEC '08,'09,'10

As comparison to the two most popular mentioned

Tony Delk

133 games played

1890 points scored Ranked #5 All Time 14.2 pts. per game

All SEC '94, '95, '96

SEC Player of the Year '96

All American '96

Chuck Hayes

134 games played

1211 points scored Ranked #39 All Time 9 pts. per game

910 rebounds Ranked #7 All Time 6.8 reb. per game

All SEC in '04, '05

Yes he shoud eventually. As should Mashburn, Delk, and Prince. Chuck Hayes? Really?

Mash's is hanging.

No, he shouldn't. Great player, great kid whose teams had very limited success during his career.

So should "rafter" success be only limited to "team success?"

If so, what arguments are made for Dan Issel whose teams made 2 Elite eight appearances (losing both despite being favored) and a Sweet 16 in '69?

What about Sam Bowie? He had losses in a Sweet 16 game at home, a First round game and finally made a Final Four the last year.

Cotton Nash never made it past the Elite Eight in 3 years.

Bob Burrow only played 2 years (juco I think) and never got past a Sweet 16 and an Elite 8.

You raise a good point but has that precedent already been set that "team success" isn't the only qualifier for "rafter success?" :idunno:

It is not the only factor, although I do consider it to be an important factor.

I love Patrick Patterson as much as the next person. But he's only played in 3 NCAA Tournament games. He has great numbers, but I refuse to get caught up in the emotion and retire his jersey.

After looking at his numbers, I think he has a legitimate case & deserves mentioning. I'd reconsider my stance in a few years. I'm just hesitant to say "yes" this soon...
