March 30, 201016 yr My brother will be getting married in May, and I will be the best man. I'm looking for some ideas for gifts. Tell me what you think, and also if you could provide a nice speech for me I would be very pleased.
March 30, 201016 yr Wait...I thought the groom bought the groomsmen the gifts, not the best man???? BTW, I have a pretty cool idea for groomsmen gifts that I'm going to be doing for my wedding in November but I'm not sharing it on here, as my best man is on this site. PM me if you'd like to know. BTW, it's better than the standard-issue flask, IMO.
March 30, 201016 yr My nephew got me a sweet laser etched Steelers mug as a gift. Since he's from a long line of Bengirl fans, I know he made it personal. Was very nice. Of course, he said it was his baby' mama' idea.
March 30, 201016 yr I have gotten a personalized bottle of Makers. The other gift was a personalized flask. I lost the flask. For those of you who might be wondering, it was not on the same night that I opened the personalized bottle of Makers.
March 30, 201016 yr Author What a total brain fart, you're correct, I won't be buying anything, I'm the best man, hopefully my brother is viewing this thread for ideas. BTW, I've only been in a hand full of weddings and I've received the flask, and a mug but I think the coolest was a customized L'ville Slugger with my name on it. I like the Swiss Army suggestion, you can use those bad boys for a ton of useful/useless things.
March 30, 201016 yr I"m 26 and I have more personal flasks and beer mugs than I care to have. Coming from a guy who has been in several weddings...I like the gifts that aren't in the "norm" much more. I even know where some of those are.
March 30, 201016 yr Gahh, every time I get on BGP I find out this wedding is more expensive for me than it was the last time I signed off... Something's gotta give!
March 30, 201016 yr I bought all of my guys initialed cuff links. Something most people do not have, but should, and every guy can wear them on the wedding day. One of my wedding photos has us all wearing them. Of course you will have a couple of people forget them the day of the wedding, but that is to be expected.
March 30, 201016 yr This year I'll be a groomsmen for the 9th, 10th, and 11th times, so I've got a bit of an different take on things. At this point, I've received doubles of a couple of groomsmen gifts - flasks and engraved knives. Now that's not to say that I didn't appreciate them when I received them or appreciate them still, but I think a lot of times there could be guys who already have some of the more standard gifts: Flasks Pocket Knives Cigar Cases/Cutters Monogrammed Money Clips Personalized Beer Mugs/Steins (I've actually received combination Money Clips/Pocket Knives and Cigar Cases/Flasks as well.) I personally think that there are some people who feel like they need to A) spend a bunch of money on the groomsmen gifts, and B) stick with the standards. Now yeah, there are "standards" for a reason, but I also have to say that I appreciate it when people go a little out of the box for their gifts. Additionally, I don't think when they're already spending money on the wedding, that the groom really needs to spend all kinds of money on a gift for me to let me know that I'm appreciated - after all, he already asked me to be in his wedding...that kind of explains it right there. Regardless, one of my favorite groomsmen gifts was when one of my buddies got each of the groomsmen a baseball hat for their favorite sports team/college. Nothing too expensive - couldn't have been more than 15 to 25 bucks a piece - but he took the time to pick out something "different" for each of us, and it shows a little bit of consideration on an individual level...and I still wear that Reds hat to games 6 years later. Another favorite was when one of my good friends got each of us a bottle of our individual favorite liquors and a cigar. There are a few bourbon drinkers, a few vodka drinkers, and a couple gin drinkers in my crowd, so we each got our own different bottle at the rehearsal dinner and were told to bring it to the wedding reception. At the reception, we had the bartenders make drinks up to our tastes, and then went outside, had a toast, and sipped on our drinks while we smoked our stogies. Hard to beat that. Anyway...you can pick up a decent cigar and a decent liter of gin/vodka/bourbon for neighborhood of $30-35, which is about as much as any engraved flask, pocket knife, etc. Regardless, there's nothing wrong with the standards - nothing at all - just thought I'd offer up my two pennies on a couple different ideas for you.
