March 30, 201016 yr This year I'll be a groomsmen for the 9th, 10th, and 11th times, so I've got a bit of an different take on things. At this point, I've received doubles of a couple of groomsmen gifts - flasks and engraved knives. Now that's not to say that I didn't appreciate them when I received them or appreciate them still, but I think a lot of times there could be guys who already have some of the more standard gifts: Flasks Pocket Knives Cigar Cases/Cutters Monogrammed Money Clips Personalized Beer Mugs/Steins (I've actually received combination Money Clips/Pocket Knives and Cigar Cases/Flasks as well.) I personally think that there are some people who feel like they need to A) spend a bunch of money on the groomsmen gifts, and B) stick with the standards. Now yeah, there are "standards" for a reason, but I also have to say that I appreciate it when people go a little out of the box for their gifts. Additionally, I don't think when they're already spending money on the wedding, that the groom really needs to spend all kinds of money on a gift for me to let me know that I'm appreciated - after all, he already asked me to be in his wedding...that kind of explains it right there. Regardless, one of my favorite groomsmen gifts was when one of my buddies got each of the groomsmen a baseball hat for their favorite sports team/college. Nothing too expensive - couldn't have been more than 15 to 25 bucks a piece - but he took the time to pick out something "different" for each of us, and it shows a little bit of consideration on an individual level...and I still wear that Reds hat to games 6 years later. Another favorite was when one of my good friends got each of us a bottle of our individual favorite liquors and a cigar. There are a few bourbon drinkers, a few vodka drinkers, and a couple gin drinkers in my crowd, so we each got our own different bottle at the rehearsal dinner and were told to bring it to the wedding reception. At the reception, we had the bartenders make drinks up to our tastes, and then went outside, had a toast, and sipped on our drinks while we smoked our stogies. Hard to beat that. Anyway...you can pick up a decent cigar and a decent liter of gin/vodka/bourbon for neighborhood of $30-35, which is about as much as any engraved flask, pocket knife, etc. Regardless, there's nothing wrong with the standards - nothing at all - just thought I'd offer up my two pennies on a couple different ideas for you. I was about ready to post something similar. My coolest gift was a watch I received. Every person in the wedding received something different. Gives an added personal touch.
March 30, 201016 yr My brother will be getting married in May, and I will be the best man. I'm looking for some ideas for gifts. Tell me what you think, and also if you could provide a nice speech for me I would be very pleased. I have read alot of the gifts for this, but I have not read where anyone gave you speech ideas. Well, the best one I ever heard went something like this: '......... To honor - get on her, and stay on her!!!!' Let me know how it goes. :laugh:
March 30, 201016 yr This is your brother! You speech should be something from the heart ending with a bit of humor....not sure I would use the above suggestion, but you know your brother better than anyone.
March 30, 201016 yr I always that the nicest gifts from another guy are knives, a nice classy pocket knife is always something a man would appreciate even if he does not carry one he will enjoy keeping it in the drawer.

Enjoy keeping it in a drawer? :ohbrother: I am not a guy, but have been involved in several weddings. I would respectfully disagree with that one. I think you have to know the guys in your wedding party and go from there. If they are into knives then it would be fine. If they like to drink, monogrammed bottles and/or flasks would be good. Cant go wrong with a money clip, cause everyone uses money and a lot of men dont always like to carry a wallet. Pens are also a great idea. Monogrammed mugs tend to collect dust. Trust me, we have thrown out several of those!
March 30, 201016 yr Here's an idea... What about a manly framed photo of the groom and the groomsman from their glory days? Not a pic of them now, but a pic with the groom and each of his friends separately, dredged up from the old photo albums, or rescued from some high school camera lying around.

May 22, 201313 yr Just picked my groomsmen gifts up. I know all of my groomsmen, with the exception of one, have been in numerous weddings already, and they all have gotten their fair share of flasks, money clips, pocket knives, etc. I got all of them golf umbrellas with the mascot/logo from the high schools that they graduated from. I think they should all be pretty happy with them.

I think they should all be pretty happy with them. Pretty good idea, I struggled with my choice as well. I went with soft side coolers with their initials engraved on them. Everyone seems to like them.
