I will say that i am quite jealous of the student body support that Boone showed last night. It reminded me of the good old days(1970's) of High School Basketball.

Great game WVFrank! I mean that, If everyone looks back over all of my comments made during the past year you will see that I am a Sydney Moss fan as well. She can flat out play. I'm a Ryle fan and I can tell you, it sure would be fun to have her in our middle and Jenna on the wing where she belongs.

 

So is this a hint that Boone is getting a new wing player next season

 

Because they tried the Union thing and there just didn't seem to be enough basketballs to go around

 

Just having fun!!! Love both players dearly...both personally and on the floor.

All else put aside, this was a great game to get both teams ready to compete in the Region. Big crowd, screaming kids etc. As a girls player you just don't get this experience very often.

 

And it seemed every player from both sides had the opportunity to contribute in a critical spot.

when was the last season when Boone DIDN'T get some sort of transfer in? Sure there will be another transfer to Boone next season. Heaven forbid we would break tradition at Boone.

Some obviously have only seen Moss play on the HS level and see her playing inside and don't see her overall game. Coach Fookes does that because Moss is nearly unstoppable against typical sized HS teams. Even when double- and triple-teamed and banged around.

 

But those who have seen her play AAU basketball know she can play out on the floor, handle the ball, shoot out there, defend out on the floor, as well as take it to the hole. The college scouts know that because they've watched her play all over the country on the AAU circuit.

Maybe this addressed elsewhere, but how is it Moss is eligible to play for Boone? The family, as I understand it, still live in the same house across from Ryle they lived in when she played for Ryle.

 

I thought Boone had pretty strict district lines unless your parent was employed by the school system?

It has never been explained how she was able to do what is strictly prohibited in the Boone County School system. All that is ever said is that she was permitted to do so, but without any explaination. I would love to hear how she pulled this off. There are several students that would prefer to go to a different high school but have not been allowed to transfer.

Didn't mean to drag this thread off topic (I know, too late), but it seems the Boone BOE may have opened a can of worms here? If you let one student transfer to the school of his/her choice, wouldn't you have to let them all?

Wow! ESPN? That's pretty heady stuff. They are super young talents who pretty much get by on natural ability right now. At the next level, everyone has talent and the inside players are much bigger and quicker. There are other challenges a college player must face too. Things such as, not being the go to player like high school, playing for a very demanding coach who will quickly replace you if you don't give full effort because these coaches, unlike high school coaches, have to win to keep their jobs. Then of course, the reason you're there, academics. Classes all day, maybe after a 5 a.m. practice, another practice in the afternoon, mandatory study table, lifting weights, etc.. Some kids don't realize it becomes more like a job than a game and the coaches don't care what your high school stats were. It quickly becomes a test of heart and mental toughness. Let's hope you're right, but there are a lot of stumbling blocks along the way.

This is a great analysis of D1 basketball. The bigger the school, the higher the expectations. Best way I have seen someone describe the committment it takes to be successful at the next level. Thanks for sharing...

Never said it was easy. I'm going to bring up a name from the past who was a good H.S. player who went on to an outstanding college career at Tennessee against all odds and the naysayers who said he coulnt't play at that level. Remember 1976's Conner's Ralph Partin? He directed the "Ernie and Bernie" show at UT.

Played against him. His was a good story but if you'll remember, he was a walk-on. Coaches don't put too much worry into walk-ons. Ralph was a great story and a crowd favorite, but, and I may be wrong here, they were directed by a player named Bert Bertelkamp.

 

By the way, if you ever run into Ralph, get him to tell you some of the crazy stuff Bernard King did. Wow!
