Could the UCONN Women beat a Mens Team???

Featured Replies

This is maybe the best collegiate women's team that I've seen. They really play the game beautifully and have some strong, fast athletes. Is there any way they could compete with or possibly beat a men's team? I am not talking about a Division I team, not even a poor one, but maybe a really poor Division 3 or NAIA school. If not, how would they fair against a boys high school team? Who do you think the Lady Huskies could beat?

I will risk sounding sexist by being the first one to answer this question. But, I personally do not feel that they could beat any collegiate team. Now if they played 100 times, maybe they could. But, I just really don't feel like they could.

We used to play the Varsity women's team when we were 8th graders and we would beat them the majority of the time. That was when we were just hitting puberty, while the majority of them were probably done with it. So take fully developed men and women and (without trying to sound sexist) I truly don't believe that the women's team could win.

I think Scott County or Holmes would beat them.

In college several of my fraternity brothers were recruited to practice against the Women's team. Most of these guys played high school ball, but none of them had any college experience. They were able to beat the women's team with ease.

I seriously doubt that that the the UConn women could beat any collegiate men's team regardless of the division. They would just be too physical and had an extreme height advantage. The average height of UConn is 5'11" with no one taller than 6'4". Any decent men's post player would be unstoppable.

I remember hearing Chris Evert say that, in her prime, she probably could not have competed with the 1000th best men's player.

Similar to what some of the others have said but... I know that a Varsity girls vs. Freshmen boys is a fairly even match-up in a half-court set-up but when it is a full-court game (pressing, transition, etc.) it won't be close.

Also, have heard of some guys that scrimmage UK women's team and they are all high school basketball players who were decent but one said that his H.S. team would beat them easily (and they were a good DIII team in NKY).

With that said, I think you would have to get down to an "average" HS boys team for the UConn team to be able to be evenly matched. A good team like Holmes would crush them.

No, they would not.

They're strong & fast for women, but the men's game is a different breed of basketball, even on the Division III level. They'd beat some high school teams, but I'd say there are probably at least 10 KY HS teams that would beat UCONN.

Men are simply too big & too strong.

The only chance the women would have is if they used a woman's ball. Without it, it'd be game over. With it, some of the men's jumpshots may be way off.

To me, the biggest thing is defense. A woman would have a very difficult time getting a good look at the basket. A man can run and jump and, more times than not, will be bigger than the female.

A center on a woman's team is about 6'3''. That's a guard for a man's team.

Tough matchup.

It's tough not to sound sexist on the subject, but I agree with the sentiment here that no, they could not. Honestly, I feel like I'm watching a completely different game when I watch women's basketball. It's just... different from men's. Not as fluid for sure, and they'd never match physically.

 This has to be the funniest question ever asked on this thread. Women's basketball

Seriously...if you scour the entirety of collegiate basketball, there are some pretty bad teams. What about some of these teams you read about who have lost two or three seasons worth of games consecutively?

I remember reading about a team from California...Cal-Tech or something. The coach was saying the academic requirements were so stringent, some of the players on their roster were guys who didn't even get playing time on their high school teams. The article was about them winning their first game in years (I can't remember how many).

Do you really think a team like that would beat UConn's women? I'm sure I'll take a beating for this...but I don't.

But, if you're just talking about your average bad team by men's standards, then no.

It's similar to arguments like a great collegiate team beating a pro team, IMO. Not happening.

Well, in that case, they'd be beating a reject boys high school team. I guess I could see that, but I bet it'd still be a close game.

Georgetown (KY) men would double the score on the UConn women. Completely and utterly different game.
