Remember, white people were killed for educating black people at one time in history. Instead of closing down when segregation ended, they continued to focus on offering an education to those who wanted to attend traditionally black schools. I am sure if looked at closely, the proportion of blacks to whites at a traditional black college is not that different from the proportion of whites to blacks at many private universities as well as state colleges.

 

As for the league, it's sad but just another reminder that no matter how much people want to act like things are just great now that we have a black President, in reality, things aren't any better, we are just quieter about it. Judging from a lot of posts in this thread, my point is made. And that is not calling you guys racist, but the fact that a lot of you just don't understand is mind boggling, in my honest opinion.

1) I've never heard of an African-American only college. Where are they?

 

2) Sure he said he isn't racist but to answer your question, yes, we should judge him and call him a liar. Because that's what he is. And players have to be natural-born citizens which makes him a xenophobe as well. "Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like." I'm white and I want no part of this guy. Whatever it is he thinks we all like about basketball... he's wrong.

I too do not understand how people don't get why this league is different, but obviously I cannot put myself in anyone elses shoes other than my own.

Nope, it is not an African American only college. There have been white football players from this area who played their college ball there. I believe it is more predominately African American, but not only.

Folks this is about business. If the commish of this league thinks there is an audience willing to pay money for this then it will probably start up. Thats if he can find some cities that buy into this.

 

Does anyone think that any cities in KY would welcome an all white basketball team?

 

Also I understand why the rooney rule was put into place, for equality in coaching, but lets say that a NFL team were to hire a black coach without interviewing a white coach, is there a $200,000 fine? And if there isn't, thats not exactly equal.

As others have pointed out, definitely not an African-American only college. Definitely a campus that is predominately African-American, but I have a white friend or two that have attend Kentucky State...in Frankfort.

With the black coaches association what's the problem? For years black qualified candidates were passed over for jobs. Things like this bring awareness. Nothing but good has come out of it. It's not a double standard IMO, it is just a way to ensure that candidates who are qualified are not passed over because of race.

 

The 2005 cencus I found said that the US is made of of 70+ % whites while it is made of 12% blacks. Not much discrimination if you really look at the population makeup.

With your logic and a lot of America's is the NBA racist toward the white player? If you look at the number of white people in America and the number of players represented in the NBA then it is way worse than black college football coaches. Nobody wants to talk about that though.

I've got a lot of black friends. I've helped a lot of black kids A LOT. In my lifetime I am supposed to be shamed for what happened before I was born and I just don't buy into it. I have respect for the past and empathize with those that faught through the toughest times in America but I've seen way to many youth that have no clue what it's about use racism as a crutch because it's an easy way out for them. I guess I take it personal some because I see the same thing with welfare in my hometown I grew up in. That's off topic so I'll get off the rant and save it for the politics/religion forum.

 

 

I agree with probably every word you said there. I just think that an All-White pro sports league is a little much. Like I said I don't believe that many if any major employers look at anything like that when they are making a hire. In most parts I believe racism does not play a huge role, unfotunately though race (or other things) do come in to play with some people. We all probably know or know of someone like that unfortunately.

 

Like I stated earlier I don't believe what people have said on here would be racist, I just don't see how someone can not view this league as at least a little bit racist. But, I also said that I obviously cannot speak for everyone. The way the guy talking about the league was quoted made him sound awfully insensitive IMO.

When talking about so called "Black Colleges", let's not forget Berea College. It was started by abolitionist for former slaves to get an education.
