No, but the only black people on those channels are professional athletes. Maybe one of those channels will have this new basketball league on it.

 

 

People keep crying about B.E.T. which only shows original programming that has black people in it along with canceled CW shows. You also have to pay for B.E.T. The B.E.T. argument is weak especially when the last show starring mostly black people on one of the "mainstream" channels was 'Martin'.

 

Ironically, if not for TBS, there wouldn't be any shows on television today that stars black people in it. Not even B.E.T. can help out in that aspect.

I agree with probably every word you said there. I just think that an All-White pro sports league is a little much. Like I said I don't believe that many if any major employers look at anything like that when they are making a hire. In most parts I believe racism does not play a huge role, unfotunately though race (or other things) do come in to play with some people. We all probably know or know of someone like that unfortunately.

 

Like I stated earlier I don't believe what people have said on here would be racist, I just don't see how someone can not view this league as at least a little bit racist. But, I also said that I obviously cannot speak for everyone. The way the guy talking about the league was quoted made him sound awfully insensitive IMO.

I've worked with lots and lots of different ethnic groups espeically youth. I guess I get bothered sometimes on the subject because I see it used way to much as a crutch especially from kids that don't really know what racism was all about. They cry foul over a lot of things to take the easy way out. Honestly it reallly strikes home because I am so bummed about how my hometown is now. Welfare has flat taken over and it too is a crutch that even the young kids have learned to abuse. It's never going to be a perfect world but I feel like we've enabled our youth a lot with built in excuses.

Personally I'm just speaking from the things I've observed in my life especially from inner city kids when it comes to race/welfare and rural kids from my hometown when it comes to the welfare.

The point that you made that I underlined IMO is where alot of the problem comes in. Only one race usually gets painted as racist, and we all know that people of any race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, etc. can be biased. :thumb:

It was not to long ago, if I remember correctly, that they had to start admitting students other than black students to continue receiving federal money.

 

It wasn't too long ago that Grambling had a white starting qb.

I am talking about shows with a predominately black cast featured around experiences that black people go through, like Everybody Hates Chris, Cosby Show, Different World, House of Payne, Meet the Browns....shows like that. There aren't any shows like this on the mainstream networks. Sure you'll have the occasional supporting actor/actress like Laurence Fishbourne on C.S.I., but there aren't any shows that cater to a black audience like there are an abundance of that cater to the white audience. The shows that cater to the black audience are shown on BET. Does that help you out?

You can actually play with any of the traditional black colleges on the EA Sports series of NCAA Football. Have at it. They aren't any good as the traditional black colleges focus on education and not sports. Their athletic teams are at best lower rung D-1.

Folks this is about business. If the commish of this league thinks there is an audience willing to pay money for this then it will probably start up. Thats if he can find some cities that buy into this.

 

Does anyone think that any cities in KY would welcome an all white basketball team?

 

Also I understand why the rooney rule was put into place, for equality in coaching, but lets say that a NFL team were to hire a black coach without interviewing a white coach, is there a $200,000 fine? And if there isn't, thats not exactly equal.

 

I would hope not, but I would not be surprised one bit if there was at least one team somewhere in the commonwealth.
