That is what people don't think about when they think of things like the BCA IMO. It's not a race trying to say they're better or anything like that, it's just trying to get equality.
January 20, 201016 yr Seriously? I have to disagree. White coaches, to my knowledge, have never been discriminated against in the coaching field as a whole. Did I miss an era to where whites were not thought of as qualified candidates as head coaches? How many non-white coaches were in the pro and major college leagues before 1988 when the BCA was created? There have been 19 black FBS football coaches in the HISTORY of Division 1 football. Today 11 of the 120 programs have black head coaches. That's not even 10 percent. Add in other minority groups and you probably have what? 15 coaches in college football that are not white? That argument is just wrong and there is no way around it. White coaches have never been discriminated against in pro and college sports and are by far an overwhelming majority. White people are an overwhelming majority in almost any occupation within the United States. They are the majority, it stands to reason that their will be much more of them. African Americans are only 12.4 % so if they hold about 10% of the coaching positions than they are really not being under represented by much. 2 or 3 more hires and they are within an equal precentage as the population. Joker will increase this number by one if none of the others get fired.

I think they have a lil' more than just 12% of the sports population wouldn't you say? :idunno: Without things such as the BCA we may never have known what coaches like Tony Dungy can do. Without the BCA maybe Joker and Strong never get the chance to be a head coach anywhere. Racism did not die in sports. It wasn't too long ago that black QB's were moved to WR or CB.

Be careful, making logical justifications for why this discrepancy exists can get a person fired and labeled as a racist. If we are going to claim equality, and blast anyone for claiming differences, we must accept a reasonable proportion represented by race.

I have never claimed that all races have reached equal opportunities, though I think we're getting there. Things like this league prove that some people are blind enough to not be able to look beyond a persons race, ethnicity, religion etc. And there is no logical explanation for why we can have leagues with a large population of one race player-wise yet only have a handful of coaches that belong to that race. I don't really think anyone looks at race anymore when hiring, but I see nothing wrong with the BCA trying to get more opportunities for black coaches (they also help other races/ethnic groups too). When someone complains that it's not fair that caucasian Americans can't start a group I think they have lost sight of what groups like the BCA and NAACP were fighting for. It's not to discriminate, but rather to ensure that every American has the same opportunities when qualified.
January 21, 201016 yr Major double standard in our country IMO! Its like Black History Month. My son asked me one day when he was younger if there was a White History Month and he has a point. Why the double standard? Morgan Freeman has taken on this issue before and has been on record saying that he wished they would get rid of Black History Month. Instead, if they really want a month like that, just have a regular American History Month. But thats for another time and place, back on topic. As much as I disagree with the man and how he wants the league to be, there are plenty of Black-only organizations in athletics, etc. while there are no white-only leagues. Thats a double standard if there ever was one but thats just the nature of our nation as it is right now.

They are trying to protect an equal opportunity against racial bias. At this point in our development I feel it is still needed. There is no reason why an all black institution, especially one that recieves government funds should still exist. It works against the goal that we all should be striving for. I stated that an all white professional basketball league is a horrible idea and it is. I just understand some of the sympathy for it. The only thing in this that I disagree with are the All-Black institutions, because to my knowledge they don't exist. The Traditionally Black schools have just as much right to exist as any other school. They allow anyone to come in (not race specific) and many probably wouldn't exist is other schools in the area had been interested in allowing all people to come to their schools.

For about 400 or so years in the country nearly every job was "all-white". That's why these things like the BCA exist man. It is wrong to have an all-white league. Where in America does one race discriminate against white Americans? Could White coaches join the BCA? Most definitely I believe. The difference in the BCA and this league is that the BCA is about helping black coaches get jobs that they haven't been given for years, and this league is discriminating. The BCA, Traditionally Black Colleges etc. do not discriminate. This league does. The argument that when the shoe is on the other foot does not fit the bill. Give me one example of a race discriminating against white Americans in the modern times.

Either way, all this does, along with all the other minority only leagues, etc. is promote segregation. All this close to MLK day. It's a shame.
