Kentucky 72 Auburn 67

The bald headed guy for the ESPNU halftime show of the Texas- Texas A&M game just said Texas was definitely #1 and although he respected Kentucky, he didn't see them being deep enough to go too far into the March tournament. He said they had 4 players that averaged over 30 minutes per game, they just didn't have the depth that they needed to make a good run.

I think he's full of bull.

And the Texas team he was blowing about was down 9 points to A&M at the half in Austin.

Depth is obviously a good thing, but playing too many players often is not the best thing to do in the tournament. Players lose their focus or "zone" and it costs you, which is what happened with Carolina a few seasons ago. Once you get down to the tournament, teams with a good 7 or 8 man rotation usually last the longest. With that said, if it comes down to fouling out and you need the depth, it is beneficial.

I know I'm a big UK fan, but Michigan and all their Fab 5 hype, got every break in the book during that game. UK should have been in the championship game that year.:irked:

Yea I agree...That UK basketball was a Machine...That does not get the Credit that is deserved...Same Goes for the team ten years later in 03...With Prince and Bogans that got beat by Dewayne Wade and a hurt Keith Bogans...:thumb:

Kentucky took 44 shots. Auburn took 63...

Yeah but how many shots did UK take where they were fouled. That negated a lot of shot attempts. I believe UK went to the line 27 times in the 1st half.

Yep, it was 93. I think he said in 96, 98 and even earlier. FSU also had Bob Sura and Charlie Ward on that team.

Coached by Pat Kennedy...one of five coaches to have coached on the D-1 level for 30 consecutive seasons.

They have 10 solid players, I think that is plenty of depth. Sure it'll probably shrink a bit once March rolls around, but when your 9th and 10th players are former starters I think it bodes well.

 When a Big East team looses to a crap BE team on the road it's just "life in the Big East." (Or Charlotte and Western Carolina at home:thumb:).

18-0 feels really good. Hang in there this year Deuce.

All I know about the Big East is I don't want UK facing a team from that conference that's an 8/9 seed or a 4/5. The BE teams will be a tough out as underdogs b/c they play so many tough opponents from January on.

Same here..

This is the first time in years that I never worried down the stretch.

The one facet of the game UK needs to work on is not forcing the ball into the lane when there is nothing there. I realize that having Wall gives you the edge to drive to the basket at any time. But tonight, Wall and Bledsoe tried to drive the ball in the lane when there was no daylight at all and it led to sloppy play and turnovers at times. However, these guys ARE freshmen and will probably overcome this tendency as the season goes on.

Also, does anyone else also think that a loss or two might actually be beneficial to the team? This is a very young team and trying to go undefeated is probably putting a huge amount of pressure on the young players. You lose a game or two, you relieve the pressure, realize you hate to lose, and work even harder to keep it from happening come tournament time.

There are many references to "killer instinct". I think the word killer needs to be changed to "mature" instinct. This team is very young and can have that kind of cocky swagger to it when they get a lead which can let teams back in a game. Here's the stat that backs up my take on this. Auburn tied the game with a 3 at 60 or 63, I can't remember exactly. The wildcats did not allow another 3 after that which stretched over 8 minutes.

They have already beat two B.E teams. The only one that I would worry about (maybe) is Cuse. UK is a tough match-up for alot of teams. Nobody can match with the guard speed, and not many can match with their size.

UK is going to lose sooner or later if they continue to shoot FF at 65%,if they make their FF this game would been over at the half. This team is no way as good as the 96 or the 98 teams. They need to get better at the FF Line and cut down on the TO,play better D on the 3 and rebound, then and only then can we talk about final 4 and maybe a Championship. But we're take the win,but its going to take a loss to wake these kids up.JMO

You're right on target. Hit FF's, stop forcing drives when nothing is there, and stop the opponent's 3's on a consistent basis.

A better FF % alone yesterday would have blown out Auburn, a team that doesn't impress me very much. UK plays down to their competition too often.

They average a 10+ rebounding advantage of their opponents, don't they?

UK needs to attempt to limit turnovers. Overall, there were 17 turnovers and Wall had 7.

When the freshman play basketball and not try to show the world on every play how high they can jump, how fast, etc., we will be OK. I think the freshmen are thinking HS where a 20 point lead is generally safe, especially on the teams they played for, and they let up on the gas.
