January 14, 201016 yr CCC, common sense on the Texas job? Well let me ask some of my buddies, I'll do a Poll and let you know. No one has made an argument for another school. Please, I'd be interested in hearing anyones. Not saying it's the best program, but I don't think any other job offers what Texas does. USC could come close, but no one else IMO. But like I said, I'd love to hear anyone else's argument for another school. Please tell me how Bama is better, because I'm sure that's where you will go. Bama is a great job no doubt, but not better from a HC perspective once you consider all the factors IMO.

Austin is a cool town. Conference is traditionally easier to succeed in. Good weather.

Pretty much alll the traditional powers offer everything you need if you're a good coach. Southern Cal, Texas, OSU, Michigan, Alabama, etc... Take Texas for instance...from '84 through '97 they went through three coaches with the following results. 14 Seasons 92-68-3 (.564%) 6 Seasons @ .500 or lower 2 10-win seasons 4 Top 25 finishes No Top 10 finishes Highest ranking was 1990 (#11 coaches, #12 AP) 7 Bowl Appearances (2-5 in bowl games) Then Mack Brown took over and lead them to three straight 9-win seasons (27-11 overall), before beginning their current string of 9 consecutive 10-win seasons. I think its splitting hairs to try to argue which school offers the most. If you can get it done, they all offer the opportunity for huge success. If you can't...well, all the major powers have learned that their tradition, fan-base, money, fertile recruiting grounds, and everything else can't guarantee success if they don't have the right man pulling the trigger. But, there's no doubt, Texas can offer just as much as anyone.

I wouldn't say that they don't have ANY competition. LSU isn't terribly far from some good spots and OU isn't either. They probably have the best compared to anyone else, but there are other Big 12 school scattered throughout that have some pull as well.

January 14, 201016 yr CCC, you stated "Common Sense" Texas is the best job, not IMO, but now you are saying IMO and I wouldn't have said a thing if you had IMO instead of Common Sense. Bama doesn't a pro team to contend with, one other major school, no far traveling to visit high schools, tradition better than Texas, weather the same, nice college town, close to great states with tradition almost as equal, now IMO. Not common sense.

It is just very hard to find a coach this late in the year with recruiting and everything else. If the AD wants to hire someone by Saturday he better hurry up.

I've noticed that the last few seasons when the Rivals rankings come out over the summer that teams like UF and USC have a handfull of commitments whereas UT has about 20 already by June. They simply select who in the state that they want to have. Thats not to say they never lose a recruit such as All Day going to OU, but for the most part they have the pick of the litter. I just looked over their roster on rivals and all but 4 or 5 kids are from TX. Last 3 recruiting classes have had one kid each from out of state.
