Just an outsiders view on the topic but I think your best option at QB next year is your starting point guard this year. I'd guess that the basketball staff may have some reservations (as they should with Zeke) but if I were the FB coach, I'd be recruiting Brandon Hatton.

 

I think Pike is going to work out great at QB and honestly am hard pressed to see how anyone else could fit better, especially a freshman. I had doubts when they first moved him but after seeing him play QB, he has tremendous potential.

Hatton is an 8th grader right? So you are saying play him at QB on varsity as a freshman? If you want to give up on next season and plan for the year after, then you can go that way. I'm with you on this. Unless they get some stud transfer, I just don't see anyone other than Pike at the QB position. He's done very well at the freshman and JV levels, and he's got all the physical tools to do very well at the varsity level.

 

As for the line, I believe they graduate all of the starters. However, they did have some juniors and sophomores that saw varsity action this past season due to injured seniors.

I believe his birthday is very near my sons which means he could easily be a sophomore, by age. Would your opinion change if he was a sophomore?

By the way, the kid is a fantastic QB and is a leader. Hatton to Pike could be a dynamic combination on the turf this fall.........

Not a chance, it will be Zeke Pikes from here on out.

One question that has not come up,will Spritzky be coaching next year.

There has been rumors for a couple of months that he was going to retire.

I have not heard anything lately, but a couple of Dixie people, I know where saying Brossart will be taking over.

A coaching change could have a bigger impact than who will be back next year.

Did Hatton play QB in freshman ball last year? Did he get any reps in JV games anywhere? That all counts as experience, but I see your point about varsity experience. If he hasn't had reps in any high school games, then he does not have near as much experience as Pike. Now, I haven't seen Hatton play so I can't comment on his ability, but all those praising him here definitely have my interest perked up. I would like to hear more details about his experience.

 

Regardless, I will say, if Pike isn't the QB at Dixie this year it will be a huge shocker - for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, he is the most impressive QB I have seen in JV games the last few years, and that includes Towles. Personally, I would take Pike over Towles at QB without even a second thought.

Pike is a different type of runner than Wilson, but still very effective running as well as passing. I know Leonard will be his main target, and he is very good. Who will the other receivers be? I think their Line will be fine. It may take a couple or 3 games to get in synch, but I think they are pretty talented there.

 

The other big question is how will their defense be in 2010? I know late in the year they were starting Menkhaus at Safety and a Sophomore at CB. I am not sure about the LB's or the other Db's.

VOR, Pike throws a real nice ball with some zip. Receivers must be willing to CATCH the ball, if they can. That's one of my worries with Dixie, just too many dropped passes.

If this is so, I would like them to open the job up to an outsider. There's a guy in Covington I would love to see take over at Dixie.
