Dixie Heights 2010

If this is so, I would like them to open the job up to an outsider. There's a guy in Covington I would love to see take over at Dixie.

One question that has not come up,will Spritzky be coaching next year.

There has been rumors for a couple of months that he was going to retire.

I have not heard anything lately, but a couple of Dixie people, I know where saying Brossart will be taking over.

A coaching change could have a bigger impact than who will be back next year.

I was at the year end banquet. Didn't sound like he had any intention to retire as coach.

Dixie's team this past year had very good chemistry and supported each other through the death of their 21 yr old coach, devastating season ending injuries to key starters, and a worse than anticipated win loss record due to losing games they should have/could have won.

The graduating seniors are part of a 2010 graduating class at Dixie with really good personalites the teachers and coaches love and will miss. So many Seniors started in 08 & 09, the next few years will give players who did get much playing time a huge opportunity to shine. Pike will definitly be QB unless an unknown shows up and Pike is needed at another offensive position since he is so versatile and has so much potential.

Main thing is Dixie needs to improve on to compete is build on the player's conditioning level at the beginning of the season. The boys are in great shape for the first game, then slowly the speed/agility training decreases as the games progress. Only way to EVER beat Highlands is to match their speed, agility, & strength. Dixie lifts the enitre season but needs to do speed training for the whole team, the entire season - can't beat Highlands with just a handful of agile/quick people.

It something that seems to come up every year. It's all speculation based on the time spent being both AD and head coach with a young family at home.

On a side note, I have heard that this was Sorrell's last year coaching. I know he retired as a teacher last year, and it was said that he was going to coach at least one more season, which was the past season. Any word on that?

Didn't appear there were any changes happening with Sorrell at this time.

I doubt Highland's Head Coach personnally instructs the player's speed training, but Highlands also has a relationship with Guiugli's speed training correct?

Spritzky is at Dixie 12-13 hours a day M-TH during football season when school starts, 15 hrs a day on Friday's until 10-11 PM on Friday night, does Saturday lifting with the team and I heard he plans on Sundays. The committment is there during the summer/during the off season. Don't think he can put much more time in.

It would be interesting to see how interested he would be.

Nothing formal, but there have been many players who have worked with Dave through their career at Highlands. Many more work with other trainers on their own time to get personal instruction beyond what they get in the way of conditioning after school.

Is the Saturday lifting something new? I remember seeing Tom and his family at a JV game at Highlands on a Saturday. Only remember this because I thought it was unusual that he was just sitting in the stands and not on the field with the team.

Did Hatton play QB in freshman ball last year? Did he get any reps in JV games anywhere? That all counts as experience, but I see your point about varsity experience. If he hasn't had reps in any high school games, then he does not have near as much experience as Pike. Now, I haven't seen Hatton play so I can't comment on his ability, but all those praising him here definitely have my interest perked up. I would like to hear more details about his experience.

Regardless, I will say, if Pike isn't the QB at Dixie this year it will be a huge shocker - for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, he is the most impressive QB I have seen in JV games the last few years, and that includes Towles. Personally, I would take Pike over Towles at QB without even a second thought.

Anyone know how many years it has been since Hatton played football?

2 years ago, when he was in 7th grade.

Dixie will have a new QB. Mobility will be a major issue especially when playing quick defenses.

Word around Dixie is that Corbin DeMatteo is going to play football for his senior year. Did he not play QB as a sophomore?

I think Pike will be the QB but this just could put another name in the list and if Pike is the QB who is his back up?

Pike is very good at scrambling and he is a load to try and bring down. Very few defenders will bring him down in a one on one situation. If Dixie is worried about protecting the QB, all the more reason to have Pike back there. Dematteo is an athlete who would probably do a great job at the receiver position.

He didn't play this past season, but he did play as a sophomore. He actually got some playing time at QB as it took a while for Wilson to get into a groove. I'd expect him to play some outside linebacker/DB and WR based on what I saw from him as a sophomore. No way he comes in after a year off and starts at QB, IMO.

I thought he started that year off as the starter. He was a better runner than Wilson but Wilson the better passer.
