January 1, 201016 yr http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20091231/SPT0302/912310377/ Innovation of the decade The Spread offense? The Wildcat formation? That running, jumping chest bump thing all the kids seem to be doing now? Nope. Locally, the biggest innovation of the decade was Bluegrasspreps.com. The website, created by former Beechwood football player Rob Bacigalupo in 2000, now has more than 4,000 paying members and many more observers. Whether you like the site or not - and it does have its detractors - it's obviously changed the way people around the state follow and discuss high school sports. It's also spawned several other sites devoted to Kentucky preps. Edited January 1, 201016 yr by nees1212
January 1, 201016 yr Interesting read and thanks for pointing it out. It was one of Ryan's best that I have read from him. Congrats on a great job sir! I thougth Ryan hit the nail on the head with the "Loss of the Decade" being NKy losing the Kentucky Post: From Ryan's article. "The loss that impacted the most people was probably the demise of The Kentucky Post, at the end of 2007. It might seem odd to read that here. But we always had a healthy rivalry The Post and realize what that paper meant to Northern Kentuckians. Covering high school sports isn't like covering other beats. It documents youth. It's more keepsake than newsbreak. And nobody in the area filled more scrapbooks than former Post scribe Terry Boehmker, who worked at the paper for 28 years". Not only was it a huge loss to local sports in NKy but a huge loss to local neighborhood news! Pity that the Kentucky Enquirer can't fill the loss created by the Ky Post closing. IMVHO, if the Ky Post is still active, like it was back in it's "hay day", there is no BGP's or at least one that is a popular as BGP's is today. BGP's to me at least fills that void left by the lose of the Ky Post! Congrats and a huge tip of Theoldguy's hat to you Rob and thanks!
January 1, 201016 yr Very well deserved. Congrats Guru. There was one thing I thought should have been mentioned somewhere in that article that wasn't. And that would be Beechwood's 2006 baseball team. After getting into the state tournament, they were loosing by 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th only to come back and beat Christian Co. And then dominating (maybe the tourney favorite) PRP, 7-0. Then finally lose to Lexington Catholic in the finals.
January 1, 201016 yr You never know when BGP will come up in a conversation. I'm waiting in the Cheddars restaurant in Ashland on Wednesday night for a table. Standing in the crowd with Sumoroyal among others. Some random guy comes up and statrs talking about how he used to spend lots of time on college sports boards. He said that of all the boards he frequented, BGP had by far the most knowledgeable members when it came to basketball.

I couldn't agree more with the author or with you about the KY Post. My dad was actually commenting on it the other day, how its a shame that no one really covers NKY sports since the Enquirer stopped. I tried to convince him to get on BGP, lol...but he doesn't really use the computer much. Anyway, I think it is definitely a huge loss to the NKY community. Mom documented my Sophomore-Senior years in both basketball and soccer and I must say made a pretty sweet scrapbook to remember the years by, filled with KY little articles about the scores of our games. Its a shame that isn't around for current players or families anymore. And congrats for the well deserved recognition Guru!

I loved the Post but news once every 24 hours with limited coverage in no way would have kept BGP from flourishing. The Post would have only been a complement to BGP.
January 2, 201016 yr A very nice belated Christmas present, indeed. Congratulations to the Guru! Thank you for the nice innovation. I enjoy it very much.
January 2, 201016 yr BGP is a great site and I tell as many about it as possible. However, I wish there were more activity from Eastern Kentucky posters. There used to be much more than there is now. When I first joined in 2004 the boys basketball forum was rocking on Tuesday and Friday nights. Now it's mostly Louisville, Central and Northern Kentucky posters. Come on Eastern Kentucky, stop just reading and start posting occasionally. :thumb:
January 2, 201016 yr I agree with the others, Guru hope you enjoy this recognition. I have a lot of fun. I also share it with lot of people.
