December 28, 200916 yr 1. But do you think he would be the best man for the job? 2. I disagree. Either he is the best man for the job or he isn't. I just hate that UK tied their own hands by giving him the job already. Like I said, you never know what he future will hold. I honestly don't know if he's the best man for the job because I know of no other candidates. I do think he deserves a shot at the job though.
December 28, 200916 yr Mike Leach might be looking for a job! Maybe Brooks leaves this year and Leach comes in as OC?
December 29, 200916 yr Mike Leach might be looking for a job! Maybe Brooks leaves this year and Leach comes in as OC? I can't see Leach taking an OC job.
December 29, 200916 yr If Brooks is indeed done, UK should wipe out the entire staff and bring in a proven coach. So get rid of the staff that has played a huge part in the resurgence of UK football? This makes no sense at all. Brooks named his successor at Oregon and that worked out really well. I believe that Joker deserves his shot. I hope that Brooks stays on for at least 1 more year. He deserves to go out when he is ready, and if he is ready, UK fans should give him a hardy 'thank you' and let's move forward. I respect what the man has done and the manner in which he is done it. I think Sanders becomes the O coordinator, and hopefully Brown stays on as the D coordinator. It will be interesting to see who Joker adds to his staff if indeed Brooks does retire. Personally, I think Ortemeyer retires as well, but i could be wrong. I really want to see Brooks leave with a win, and IMHO, that is why his decision is still at 80% and not 100%.
December 29, 200916 yr There are just a lot of people who are no longer confident he can keep the program on the rise. IN reality is it really on the rise though? Seems much more like a plateau to me, and that's likely why Brooks is done.
December 29, 200916 yr Yes, I believe Sanders takes the OC job. Will he get the playcalling duties then, or will Joker keep them?

I think that if Brooks leaves Joker will keep most of the staff around. I can't imagine any would be let go. I'd like to see what Sanders can do with the offense, as I don't feel that he gets much imput now even though he's technically the OC.
December 29, 200916 yr I don't have a Dog in this cat fight, but if Bama lost Coach Saban to the NFL I'd love to see Gary Patterson of TCU have an interview, you want the best/most experince coach you can get for your team. I have not been impressed with Joker's play callin, and I know I've seen many Cat Fans complaining about the "Wildcat formation" and the callin of plays this season. The QB situation may have a lot to do with the plays. I like Joker and hope he does well, but I'd call Gary first. I also have seen every game the Cats have played some in person.

December 29, 200916 yr ^^I also promised several girls I'd marry them. Mama promised Chocolate Oatmeal cookies for Christmas. Urban promised to resign. Bobby promised to stay with the Cards, well I could go on and on, you want the best Coach that you can find.
December 29, 200916 yr UK football is as good as it is going to get. We don't have the talent base in our reruiting area, we can't compete year in and out in the SEC in recruiting or on the field, that is just how it is. Alabama can't do it in basketball year in and year out, but UK can. Keep Joker, make it a smooth transition, and hope we keep getting to go somewhere the end of Dec. or 1st of Jan. Going to Nashville is better than all those years of going nowhere at all. A big name coach isn't coming here, an up and comer may come for a while and leave when the big boys come calling. Go Cats!
December 29, 200916 yr 1. I don't like Joker's play calling. Never have. Every SEC defensive coordinator has him completely figured out. 2. I do like Joker's recruiting. I think we have more depth at almost every postion than we have had in a long, long time. 3. I think Joker's recruiting is as much a part of our success as anything. And I honestly believe that he can continue to bring in the type of talent to keep us competitive. 4. I like the way Coach Brooks runs a program. He sets the direction he wants to go. He coaches the coaches and lets the coaches coach the players. 5. My biggest concern with Joker taking over is: not his ability to coach - I think he can coach not whether he can recruit - I think he can recruit It's his ability to run a program. I'm not saying he can't, but a program like UK can destroy a good coach. We've all seen good coaches go to bigger programs and get consumed. And those are guys with head coaching experience. If Joker does take over. I would really like to see Coach Brooks stick around as a program director or some kind of title to help and teach Joker the behind the scenes stuff that is so vital to running a program.

The difference between the above, and UK's situation is the little hurdle of a contract "promising" the job to Joker....meaning there are punitive damages owed to him, if it doesn't happen.

It depends on if that clause was written into the contract. We can assume it was, but the issue of UK making Joker Phillips the "Coach in Waiting" involved him being pursued to be a Assistant Head Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at a Top Ten, Big 12 school. I certainly haven't seen his "Coach in Waiting" contract nor has anyone else more than likely, so who really knows?
