I think the fan base would be happy with it if a New Years Day Bowl game was in there every 3 or 4 years. I think UK's football situation is much like the middle tier or low tier schools in basketball. Those schools fan bases will generally be happy with a 20 win season, and an NCAA tournament appearance.

Now, because of the pressure to get that sixth win, Kentucky plays Murray State, Eastern Kentucky, and middle of the pack MAC teams.

 

Throw out Louisville. The last time UK played someone from a BCS conference? Indiana in 2005. Before that? North Carolina in 1989.

 

To me, UK's back-to-back bowl appearances in the early 1980s are much more significant than four straight appearances this day and time because of how FCS teams stack the deck in their favor to get six wins.

I agree which is why back to back bowls in the 1980s is much more of an accomplishment than four straight today.

You may say it's not a race thing, and hopefully for most people you are right. I am confident that it is for many people though.
