Sure, I have no problem with the criticism of his play calling at times, but for people to totally write him off before he even coaches one game is a joke. Give the guy a chance, and if he proves that he is not a good head coach, then have at it, but give the guy a chance. I think he has shown he deserves the chance. You don't all of a sudden just become a bad offensive coordinator. The personnel you have has a lot to do with it.

I've met Joker. He is a great guy that I thoroughly enjoyed talking to. I just don't think he is the right choice now. At the same time, I hope I am wrong. And none of this has anything to do with race.

Some of you are so over the top its amazing. Joker is the right move for the time to see what he can do. Lets be honest here they just aren't good enough for him to able to call the plays that he wants. Did UK struggle scoring with a good QB when he called the plays. Outside of Cobb and Locke he doesn't have all that much to work with.

Not me, usually... :lol: I'm typically the one that tries to defend the coach, whoever he may be. I defended Tubby until the day he left, Rich Brooks when people wanted his head, and even Billy G. until I realized what kind of guy he was.

 

I'm not even criticizing Joker now, just saying that I'm not as confident today as I was 2 years ago.

As a die hard UK fan I think I can speak for the majority in saying we have had so many lean years, that we aren't wanting to risk giving some one a chance at this point. We are at a great spot right now, 4 straight bowls, numerous wins and competing with every SEC school; almost. We don't want to go backward or even the chance of going backward. Brooks has shown he can take us forward, not sure how much further he can do that if he stays but we will not go backward with him. Now with Joker and his playcalling, we are all skeptical. his recruiting which we don't hear a lot about is I'm sure very good, so that I won't judge him on but playcalling is obvious and as a HC he won't be doing much of that. However, we have never seen him have to manage practice, be 100% committed to media relations, be the GUY who recruits, assign coaches, etc. All aspects that IMO Brooks has succeeded at and that is all we ask of a HC. We as UK fans are risking a lot on an unknown in a lot of areas. We really want a proven HC I'm sure, but we will be getting Joker regardless.

 

I never want to hear about personnel because he recruits his own personnel and a good coach adjust to his strengths and weaknesses, especially at the collegiate level. They get paid six figures to stare at a depth chart board and recruit what kind of kids they want. They have chosen all of these and then they have had the chance to develop them.

I hate the fact that any time people critize Joker Phillips for anything, they are going to be painted as a racist... He's not above criticism, and may not be the right man for the job... He may be great, though. We'll just have to wait and see. I can't say that I'm totally confident, but hope to be proven wrong.

 

As long as he keeps bringing in the right kind of players and winning games, I will be happy.

I have never personally met anyone on this board so for anyone to come on here and call me a racist for thinking Joker isn't the best option isn't worth my time. The color of Jokers skin has as much to do with how I fell as does the kind of the car he drives.

 

That said, I hated the fact they named anyone "Head Coach in Waiting". I thought FSU was dumb for doing it with Jimbo and I think UK was dumb for doing it with Joker. You never know what the future will hold.

 

I might be wrong about Joker and hope I am but limited by a freshman QB or not the play calling this year has been less then impressive. And that falls squarely on Joker's shoulders.
