I agree which is why back to back bowls in the 1980s is much more of an accomplishment than four straight today.

 

 

I don't see how it's much more of an accomplishment when they only played 6 conference games back then. Kansas and Kansas State were both pretty bad programs back in those days.

Why do you say that? Why don't you feel that Joker can get the job done? Who do you feel that UK could get that would do a better job than Joker, and what do you base that on?

I just don't think Joker can take UK to the next level.

If that were the scenario, then no without any previous UK ties I don't think Joker would get the job. You can't take away those factors though.

I think 5-3 or even 6-2 is possible. A lot of it would depend on what SEC West teams they play a particular year, and if they have what I call the winnable games at home. I don't think Kentucky will every consistently be able to beat Florida or Tennessee. The other East teams I think they could.

So you do not think it is an unrealistic expectation for Joker to do better than the 4-4 that Brooks got the program to? By the way you posed that question to me, I took it as you did think it was unrealistic.

Race is an issue for the coaches in the SEC. It is a sad reality. Maybe folks on this forum are open minded, but it can be seen in the hiring practices of the conference and in the history of the conference. How much of an issue race is; that is for debate.

 

I think UK needs to keep Joker for one reason; he can recruit the daylights out of the southeast. He has gotten us players from Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, even JUCOs from California. If it comes down to what I want in a head man, I will take the recruiter over the X's and O's guy every time. The HC just needs to be smart enough to retain good X's and O's guys on his staff.

I believe there is a difference in being realistic, and thinking something could possibly happen. For example, I don't think it's realistic that I'll ever weigh below 200 lbs, but I know that if I were to get deathly sick, then it would be a possibility.

Now I get that! If a 3-5 or 4-4 SEC record is acceptable, and sweep the patsy non conference schedule to get to the Gaylord bowl is the expectation, then I feel Joker is the man.

There are some guys to be had too, IMO. Would Dana Holgorsen leave Houston for UK, or Bryan Harsin (Boise St.) or Danny Langsdorf (Oregon St.), or we could throw some money around and see if we could land a Sonny Dykes (Arizona) or a Andy Ludwig (Cal). I mean, what is Mike Martz doing now? He used to be the OC at Arizona St. once upon a time. Let's make the call.

 

Joker can get some decent talent here, he needs an OC to meld it into something special and any of the guys I mentioned would be an upgrade over what we had or will have with Randy, IMO.

That's who I would want. I think it's a similar style of play and would be a great pickup for UK.

I didn't say I wasn't talking about race, but there is an obvious reason that is the first thing people thought of.
