#5 I agree with you but the world is a different place today and loyalty is just not as important to some. I believe in always starting what you finished. If for some reason you can't...tell the truth as to why your not going to finish!! Don't lie about it!!!

So you believe firing someone is wrong as well correct? I mean, they don't get to start what they finish, and shouldn't the employer be loyal for the duration of the project or contract?

How do we know that UC wanted BK to coach the bowl game?? I have heard of numerous schools saying you wont be coaching the team in the bowl game if you accept another job?

Have to agree with Gus, if I was offered a job with 2 to 3 times the money I was making..... I would ask when do I need to be there and would be at home packing it up.

I think he would've thought a little longer about leaving. Besides adding a few teams to their schedule for a little better competition, and beating them, they can't do any better than this year and STILL didn't make the NC.

Heck, if he only loses one game at ND they're most definitely in the NC.

I heard several of you mention this and getting fired has nothing to do with this situation.

People get new jobs all the time and handle it much more professional than Kelly. There is a proper way to handle every situation you are given/put in with life. Do the best you can to finish what you started. You NEVER know when you burn a bridge how it can come back to haunt you!

How is it not the same? You said people should be loyal and finish what they start. If I start a job, and am supposed to be on it for a year, but get fired 6 months in, how is that acceptable? I should be loyal to them, but heck with them being loyal to me?

Did BK tell anyone publicly that he had taken the ND job? I think all the leakage came out of South Bend and not something he could control.

At the end of the day BK is a business man and he did what is best for his family, don't hate.

I don't think anyone is begrudging him for taking the job but the fact on how the process went.

I hear you. In fairness to these coaches, there really is no good way of handling the situation. Saying "no comment" implies you are talking with Notre Dame. Dodging the question(s) does the same thing. If he openly comes out and says, "I want to coach at Notre Dame", that is a slap in the face to UC and to his players.

I have always been of the camp that you should be as upfront about these things as much as possible. But with contracts and other legal stuff, they are constrained with what they can say.

I'm with you. There's no good way to do it. I think the way its typically handled is probably the best way...people always feel burned because they were lied to, but ultimately, I think that is best for the team, because it limits the distraction as much as possible, while keeping everyone on board and as focused as possible for the stretch run.

If he goes in either of the other two directions, he fuels the fire, opens up more distraction, and possibly loses his team and the fanbase. Not to mention, could jeopardize the job he wants, which is never a sure thing anyway, and how does he repair the damage if he has to stay.

A lot to consider.

It's just how it is these days. Players flip-flop by saying their staying for another year of college and get the coach and fans excited but jet off to the big leagues and coaches go and do the same thing. The players need to get over it.

Brian Kelly taught them a valuable lesson about life.

Being loyal?

Brian Kelly isn't the only one, but UC signs you to a new contract and puts all these plans in place to accomidate what you would like to have and you up and leave? Also, one thing grandpa taught me at a young age is you finish what you've started no matter what. Is he really selling out on those guys that have busted their butt for him all year and not even coaching the bowl game? Notre Dame doesn't even have one for him to coach. Be a man and stick with your boys!

On the same not the NCAA needs to figure something out. It wasn't fair to UC, Florida, Stanford, or UCONN to be trying to work toward this bowl game and not knowing if they are going to have a coach tomorrow. Somehow you need to work out where no one interviews a coach in bowl contention until the bowl is over. Also, I think in all sports coaches should be required to fulfill their contracts. It's just like any other contract. You sign it and you fulfill it. What a joke.

Good job to Notre Dame though. You've finally landed a coach!

I do understand what you are saying. However did you stick with the first job you ever have? Did you leave that job, or are you eventually going to leave that job? I mean when you do leave that job, you put your employer in a tough spot and makes them have to find someone knew. So is that ok then? Or should you be loyal to them too? Or say if someone is a teacher, should they just for the rest of their lives stay at that school? I mean if they leave for another school, that is not showing loyalty to the school that first game you a shot. Its not showing loyalty to the kids you teach.

I mean its very easy to sit back and say he was wrong for leaving, and people need to be loyal. However everyday and everyone has not been loyal to their jobs, and I doubt you will be either. I mean are you going to say a teacher is wrong and not loyal, if they leave for another school where they might make more money, and just in a better situation for him and his family? The same could be said for any position really. If a person leaves at any job, it leaves a whole in that company. This is something that you, me and just about everyone has done or will do sometime in their lives. We have to remember that coaching football IS THEIR JOB. So just like for any other job, if another job opens up where you could make more money, and also feel like you overall will be in a better situation for you and your family then you would take it. Even though us as fans like to think of football and other things just as sports, we have to realize that for some people it is their jobs. So lets not say what they do is wrong, when basically everyone will do the same thing at some point in their lives.

I am not saying people shouldn't be loyal, because if more people were loyal than this whole world would be a better place. I am just saying we shouldn't try to put down anyone in particular since basically everyone has or will do the same thing in some point in their professional careers. The thing is though if everyone is loyal, than everyone will be working at their first jobs ever still haha.

You work through your contract. That's what happens when you write your name on that line.

That's how the world "should" work. The way the world really works is the complete opposite.
