To be honest I wasn't paying much attention I am a OSU fan. It's something I've thought about a long time though and with this hitting close to home it was a great time to bring it up.

Back to the thread.. BK said on ESPN that he preaches loyalty and being honest.... from what GT said earlier I am not sure if this will mesh well?

All those nice facilities being built should attract good coaches and quality athletes for years to come.

 

I think so too but they ponied up a lot of Deniro for it... assuming BK and his success would pay it back in no time. BK's success alone earned a date in Columbus in 2012 where UC got a million up front. I really hope Jones carries on that success.

If you don't want people getting out of their contracts, don't put buyout clauses in them. But that would never happen because coaches would not sign the contracts without the buyout option... And as long as they pay up to get out, then they are fulfilling the terms of their contract and are/should be free to do whatever they want.

I've pointed this out a bunch on here during this process and I know y'all are tired of seeing me mention how badly Coach Saban was treated by everyone and still is in Miami/Florida area. Like someone said if anyone gets a chance for a ...will not use the word better, move on I'll say someone gets hurt. Nick left Pro players, lets watch and see how Coach Kelly is treated. You do realize that there isn't a month long break between the end of the regular season and postseason in college basketball right?

 

UM yes I do realize this but the system needs to be fixed. NCAA football is a mess if you really look at it.

IMO he should have coached the bowl game.

The system in place stinks, but leaving to go coach your new school is the only practical way of handling a situation. Notre Dame was in limbo without a coach. Some of their verbals were on the fence and rightfully so. Those kids deserve to know what the future holds for them. If Kelly is hired but still stays at UC through the duration of the bowl game, his loyalties will be with the Irish in recruiting, trying to build a staff, and retention of his current players in South Bend. His mind would not be fully with UC, and parting ways make the most logical sense. Again, it stinks how the system is, but there really is no other solution unless significant rules in the recruiting game were rewritten and the NCAA did not act as a business.

People need to take their emotion out of this. If you get offered a better job you take it. If someone offers what I perceive to be a better job for me and my family I am gone. I dont care what "project" I am in the middle of. And I do this out of LOYALTY!!!! Loyalty to my family.

I wonder if the people complaining about Brian Kelly leaving UC and not being loyal complained when UC hired him away from Central Michigan?

 

Kelly said he realized he handled the situation at Central Michigan wrong and that he learned from it, and would have handled it differently. It's not about him leaving UC for ND, it is how he handled it, yet again. A coach claims he loves his players and they are like family, well the family should not be the last people to know about your decision. It is his dream job supposedly, GREAT! But he can handle it A LOT better and that is why people are upset at him.

 

It is not about ND going after the coach that they want, and is not ND handling it wrong, it's Kelly!

 

I agree with those that say the NCAA should change some rules, that schools cannot contact coaches until after the last bowl game of the season, as well as move the early signing period back a month or two. The way it is now the schools are in such a rush to replace a coach so that verbally committed players do not de-commit and look elsewhere with the signing period just around the corner.

A friend told me that he wants the Bengals to get Gilyard, and while I've only watched UC play 4 or 5 times to past 2 years, he seems to have a better grasp on things than anyone else: Yeah it sucks what BK did, but I can't blame him.

Fine, you admittedly say he handled the situation wrong "again", like he did when leaving Central Michigan. So I ask you, were you posting on this or any other forum about how wrong Brian Kelly was for not being loyal and leaving his Central Michigan players behind?

Agree, as long as they move back the signing period.

 

 

If Brian Kelly told his team that they would be the first to know and didn't tell them he was leaving first, than yes he was wrong. But take that issue out of the equation all together and I don't think Kelly handled the situation poorly at all. What was he suppose to do, say he had been meeting or politicking for the ND job for weeks? If he would have said that than I guarantee you the distraction would have been even bigger and the UC players would not have had any confidence that their coach was going to be there past the Pitt. game and UC would have lost that Pitt. game.

 

Brian Kelly handled the situation in the best manner that he felt possible to get his team into position to play for a National Championship. The end result proves that he was correct. As I said, he should have told his players first but failure to do so should not result in the crucification of the man. It was just a mistake on his part that I am sure he regrets. IMO, the UC fan base are just looking for a reason to hate Brian Kelly and this is the best one they can find.

Not be there to coach his team for arguably the most signifcant bowl game in UC history is shameful IMO....but maybe UC wanted it that way as well?

 

Do we know for sure that he was given the opportunity to coach UC in the bowl game? It's not always the coach's decision. Sometimes the University he is leaving wants "their guy" to coach them and sometimes the new University wants their newly hired coach to begin work immediately.

 

I bet if Kelly were given the opportunity to coach UC against Florida in the Sugar Bowl he would have done so in a heartbeat! I'll believe that until I read somewhere that it was his choice not to do so.

#5 I agree with you but the world is a different place today and loyalty is just not as important to some. I believe in always starting what you finished. If for some reason you can't...tell the truth as to why your not going to finish!! Don't lie about it!!!
