December 1, 200916 yr Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to see Bobby go out like this, but the reality is that if he didn't want it to end this way, he probably should have moved on a few years ago. The Florida/Florida State game was one of the most painful events I've ever witnessed as a Seminole fan, and I think it was the final straw. It was time to move on, whether Bobby knew it or not. Honestly, for about the past decade we've heard the "on his own terms" stuff. We can dial up all the reasons next year might have been his last, but the real reason he'd have left after next year was the significant amount of money they'd have owed Jimbo if he didn't. Was that going to be Bobby's own terms? Blame the president, blame the boosters if you must. This whole "I'll never root for FSU again" stuff is ridiculous. It was time. I'm sorry that Bobby couldn't be counted on to realize that himself. I really wish he had. It would have been best for everyone.

December 1, 200916 yr http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4701625 As an FSU fan, I am grateful for everything he has meant to FSU Football, but this day has been a long time coming. I look forward to the change. ......even if that change is Jimbo Fisher? Like the local "Coach in Waiting", Joker Phillips, how do you feel it will pan out? Seems not so "sexy" now..
December 1, 200916 yr It could have been handled better, I agree, but their job is to do what's best for the University and sometimes feelings get hurt along the way. For me, I just want FSU to be respectable again, by any means legally necessary. How could you possibly be a Duke fan and an FSU fan at the same time?
December 1, 200916 yr Again, I ask, what do you do then? Bobby wasn't going anywhere. I don't care what anyone says. He was planning on dying as the FSU coach and would never leave unless he was forced out. He was never going to leave. If he was going to leave, he'd have left 2 years ago. FSU has just kept getting worse every year. I understand his legendary status and his place in FSU history, but what do you or can you do when the legend has overstayed his welcome? Keep losing? See Jurich and Crum.
December 1, 200916 yr I am not a Free Shoes University fan, nor am I a Bobby Bowden fan, but I do not agree with this decision. Bobby Bowden made the Flordia State football program. He has earned the right to call his own shots. I can not see any reason to treat a man who has done so much with so little respect. Even if his role is going to be a figure head, you don't make that public. Keep it under wraps for the sake of honor. Also I would like to add that Jimbo Fisher is not the answer. He has been there for quite some time and they are still AVERAGE at best. Why do we think that his average offense will be better when he is head coach? Bobby Bowden asked for 1 more year. After all the poor excuses of football teams they have had in the past years one more is not going to break the bank. Fisher would still be in the wings waiting and Bowden could have left on his terms. Here is hoping FSU never wins another game..........
December 1, 200916 yr As a big FSU fan I am disapointed in how this was done. From day one FSU has handled this wrong. They have basically insulted the man. I am not saying his time was not at the end. Not that FSU will ever care, but I am not sure when I will root for my Noles again. They are making a mistake with Jimbo. He has displayed poor judgement this season. Three different games this season his has had poor clock management. On top up questionable play calling. The worse thing a University can do is have a coach in waiting. Coach Bowden is a legend and deserved better than he got. :madman: I totally agree CB. :thumb:

I din't use the word NEVER.
December 1, 200916 yr For those that say he has earned the right to go out on his own terms, where do you draw the line? Yes Bowden made FSU what it is today but you cannot settle for bad football teams because you think Bowden should stay as long as he likes. The fact is FSU hasn't been relevant in years and they seem to get worse every year. Do you just allow your program to twindle to the bottom of the conference because Bowden "deserves" to stay. As Clint said in The Unforgiven "deserves gotten nothing to do with it". Bowden should have done the right thing a few years ago and retired. They have way too much talent to be this bad. IMO, mainly because they have some bad coaches on this staff. If I were FSU I would clean house and start over. Jimbo has run the offense for a few years and they have been putrid under him.
December 1, 200916 yr Didn't I hear that FSU finished the season ranked in the Top 5 for 15 years straight, 1987-2001? I don't think that the powers-that-be in Tallahassee think that's going to be duplicated. Maybe ranked in the top 15 for 5 years straight would be realistic.
December 1, 200916 yr How, they still can't get past the Ohio State monkey on their back. No one is scared of Penn State. They beat Ohio State last year... not this year granted but they won it last year so I don't see that as really being a monkey.
December 1, 200916 yr Bottom Line he has a contract through 2010 with an agreed tunrover of the program after the 2010 season. They should have at least gave him to the end of that contract to fix the ship. I am a big Bowden and FSU fan. Bowden's only down fall is Loyalty. He has been loyal to his staff and the guys that helped him over the last 30 years biuild that program. He is to loyal and in the end the university that he put on the map has shown no Loyalty. Mickey Andrews is retiring, he said he would allow Jimbo to find his own DC. That he would only advise in during the process. The Changing of the guard has been taking place.
December 1, 200916 yr He shoulda been let go for saying that Charlie Ward was better than Tim Tebow. Seriously, he's done great things for FSU....he knows his football. I wish him the very best in his life after football. Later.
