December 1, 200916 yr And BTW, CatsX3 is saying shouldn't go. That's why he's saying he's lost respect for FSU and now hopes they lose every game. He just said that they could go 5 years in a row winless and that he still shouldn't be let go. I agree they should've handled it better, but you're laying none of the culpability at Bobby's feet either. He hasn't been doing the job for several years now, and his staff is not good enough to pick up that slack. Bobby clearly didn't know when it was time to go, and unfortunately someone finally had to make that choice for him.
December 1, 200916 yr ^^ I agree. Bobby has always let his coaches coach. That's his philosophy. Richt probably isn't at UGA right now if not for Bowden. Is he the same guy as he was in the 80s or 90s? Probably not, but I believe FSU problems are from the problems within the coaching staff and not Bowden. You can't have the staff fragmented. FSU getting to a bowl game this season is somewhat of an accomplishment.
December 1, 200916 yr And now they need a coach that coaches everyone. Coaching the coaches only works if your staff is quality. Coach everyone? All HC's are different IMO. Meyer is a guy for all 3 phases of the game. Saban is a defensive guy. Leach is an offensive guy. Bobby is the kind of guy who has a philosophy and trust his assistant coaches to do their jobs. The coach in waiting killed FSU IMO. They had some down years before that but you just aren't going to win without a QB (Chris Rix is the best player Miami ever had ). They have that now, but the coaching staff was not together. Alot of insiders have said the players couldn't tell who the actual head coach was.

But one of the two had to change IMO. Maybe they should just clean house and hit the reset button anyway.
December 2, 200916 yr So you feel they should have just wiped out the staff then. I could've seen trying that. But one of the two had to change IMO. Maybe they should just clean house and hit the reset button anyway. Yes. If they were going to run Bowden off, get rid of everyone IMO. Jimbo has had more to do with the last few seasons than Bowden has IMO, as he has had alot of the responsibilities and has caused some drama within the staff according to some.

December 2, 200916 yr Author I am glad Dragonfire was here while I have been away from the computer all day. Dragonfire, you are dead on. Bobby should have left a long time ago and it never would have gotten to this point. That's it. Will his success be duplicated ever again, not likely, but at the same time, if he loved FSU so much and not his ego, he'd have stepped down at least 5 years ago. FSU has declined at a rapid rate since 2001 and this is what happens when schools expect more from their legendary coaches. His ego got him canned like this, not the school. FSU football had gotten to where it was painful to watch and for all those who say Jimbo's offense is putrid.....the offense wasn't the problem this year...it was Mickey Andrew's defense. Ponder played great before he got hurt. I'll be be back for more tomorrow if this topic is still a hot one......
December 2, 200916 yr Bobby Bowden has meant far more to college football than most real ever realize. I am not an FSU fan but one doesn't have to be to be a Bobby Bowden fan and I am definately that. My personal all time great coaches ....Bear Bryant, Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno. Bowden has had a much bigger impact on the lives of his players thorugh the years than his amount of wins will ever equal. Bowden has had three sons that have been/are sucsessful coaches. Bowdens entire life has been dedicated to his Faith, Family and Football ..............in that order as it should be and that is why he was,is and will continue to be great. I heard him say that he would now be giving talks/seminars at various places, including churches. I know that I would love to hear him speak. On a side note and in typical Bowden fashion he told espn this morning......"da gum it, now I am going to have to get a job!"
