I commend NCC, they are by far the best team in their district and they took some beatings early. The teams they lost to were much bigger schools, and I think their early schedule can only help now. The loss to Campbell was suprising but I believe they would win that game now, so you can say they beat the teams they should've beat and they've won the games they should have won. I think they still have a nice run in them.

You can disagree with it, but you would be wrong. Here is Cov. Cath's record for the last 10 years:

You tell me does 2009 look more like what Cov. Cath has done for most of the last decade or the exceptional year of 2006 (remember that 2004 their on the field record was actually 8-5)? I will give you that Cov. Cath's record is skewed a bit by their tough schedule.

My original point was that Cov. Cath. has been mediocre more often than not. Go by records or post season run or whatever measure you want, but the fact is they haven't been a dominate team except for one (except maybe 2 or 3 years) this decade.

Name one other school in KY outside of Highlands, Trinity, X , and maybe Male who would have been dominant with those schedules year in and year out. There aren't any.

 

Sure, they only have won 56% of their games this decade, but when you play a couple of nationally ranked teams every year, and throw Highlands in twice most years that accounts for almost 80% of their losses.

 

The fact is, that outside of Highlands that when taking head-to-head in consideration, and talent, they were still overall the #2 program in NKY.

The point is this years Cov. Cath team is ABOUT where Cov. Cath has been for most of the past decade, which is very average. Use record, use playoff results, use whatever measure you want, but Cov. Cath. has been very average for much of the past 10 years.

I know exactly what I am talking about thank you very much, but since you want to praise Cov. Cath's tough schedule also note that there have been plenty of blow outs. Playing a tough schedule is great, but it is also nice to pull out the W every now and then.

Is it really? Or is it that overall NKY has really good football and those few teams are just really great.

I'd say NKY will go at least 4-2 here, and add in Highlands (vs. Dixie), NCC (vs. CAL) and Holy Cross (vs. DeSales) and you could have 7 or more NKY teams still playing after 2 rounds--Don't think that's too sub-par??

I find it hard to believe you are from NKY or even KY. Just because an area is doing better than another area doesn't mean football talent is down. When NKY isn't doing so well, I don't see people saying the State talent is down. You make no sense. Just accept it and help make your team better.

 

I don't think talent is down ,so I agree with you !!Some may say talent is down maybe because Trinity is not the Trinity that we are used to hearing about. Louisville X was off the radar until the past few weeks,and now people think they are the best in the state, (which I disagree with) we'll save that for another thread. Holmes is better since dropping down a class .Beechwood is beechwood,what else can you say. Teams from the west region are saying they have a good shot in the finals. Bryan Station is playing good football and should go deep in the playoffs. Ryle will give Lou, X a good game.(JMO). As far as 5A goes, HHS is the one to beat. If fans of different teams think they can beat the birds,then they must have a pretty darn good team,wouldn't you think? Bottom line,football isn't down in Ky. , its just that some teams are extremely good and some teams are just very good and that can make a difference from the outside looking in. (JMO)

Or what he is saying is true. Comparitively speaking NKY is more complete this year top to bottom and has some really good heavy weights in teams like Highlands and SK. NewCath and Beechwood aren't as good this year as the years past but they are still extremely good and have proven it again and still have a legitimate shot at a title. Holmes and Bellevue have produced some of the best teams they have ever had and it has showed as they have playever well thus far. You have offered little to no evidence to back up your claim while several of us have offered our evidence to contradict your statement.

 

Much of the reason for NewCath and Beechwood being so, "down" this year, has a lot to do w/ the fact that 6A in NKY isn't down this year. Additionally, Dixie was playing very well to start the season, and Highlands is 9th in the country. On top of all of that, CovCath is better. This is a case of a year where the bigger schools are actually where they are supposed to be and Beechwood and NewCath were rebuilding.

Of those games, the NKY 1A team (Becchwood) won state, as did the NKY 5A team (Highlands). The NKY 2A team (NewCath) lost by three points, while the NKY 6A team (Simon Kenton) was easily beaten by Trinity, who was the probably the state's best team overall last year. All in all, that's a very good showing for NKY.

 

I would be surprised if four NKY teams make it to state title games this year, and I would also be surprised if two NKY teams win state titles. So, either NKY is "down" this year relative to last year, the state of KY is "up" this year relative to last year, or both.

Amongst 1A schools Bellevue and Beechwood top a lot of lists. How can they be considered some of the worst?

 

Bellevue has Ricky Buckler leading rusher 2268 yards and tied for leading scorer 200 points. #15 passer in Richard Wills. 4th in team scoring. 8th in points scored on. 4th in scoring margin. 2nd in rushing by a team. 11th in rushing yards against. 14th in passing yards per game. 14th in passing yards allowed.

 

Beechwood has Joe Colosimo the 13th leading rusher 1050 yards and 14th in scoring with 90 points. 11th passer in Matt Rigdon. 6th in team scoring. 14th in points scored against. 7th in victory margin. 4th in team rushing. 15th in rushing yards against. 10th in passing yards per game.

Are state titles and state championship appearances the best way to guage the relative strength or weakeness of the region? Maybe it is the best way to guage the top, but it does little to measure the depth of solid teams, which was my rationale for saying this is a banner year in NKY.

When is the last time that NKY QBs posted these types of numbers? I am sure the NKY defensive coordinators were very worried each week.
