I dpn't see it, why aren't these guys all playing for the championships in their classes then? Everyone considers WKY weak but they are in four of the title games this year.

If you took the top 2 teams by class from WKy and played against the Top 2 teams by class from NKy, here would be the likely matchups:

Mayfield vs Beechwood

Crittenden Co vs Bellevue

 

2a

Ft Campbell vs NCC

Murray vs Holy Cross

 

3a

NKy doesn't have any 3a teams, do they

Tilghman and Union Co or Russellville would be the best 3

 

4a

Lone Oak vs Holmes

 

5a

Christian Co vs Highlands

Owensboro vs CCath

 

6a

Henderson Co vs SKenton

Graves Co vs Ryle

 

Of these 9 games, I think the west would go 6-3, losing to Highlands, SKenton and Ryle. Just my opinion.

I agree! However, in most years WKY would win the matchups in 3A and 4A, simply because NKY doesn't have any teams in those classes(Holmes, this year). :lol:

 

I will give FC much deserved credit, they have a very nice program and have surplanted NCC as the favorites in 2A each year. But moving forward, it will likely be Beechwood, NCC, and Highlands or CovCath playing for the state title year in year out. Now only if Holmes and a NKY 6A school could get into this conversation.

 

In 06' NKY had 3 teams out of 4 classes (NCC, CovCath, Ryle) and 08' NKY had SK, Highlands, NCC, and Beechwood, 4 of 6 teams.

You're right, some of these teams may make it to the finals, but if I had to predict right now, I'd say that only one NKY team (HHS) makes it to the finals. We will soon see, and if multiple NKY teams make it to BG then my argument has been rendered null and void. I just don't see it happening, though.

CovCath eased up on their schedule considerably and only had one more win; they were not better. (Plus Beechwood and NCC had serious drops in talent.)

 

Much of the reason for NewCath and Beechwood being so, "down" this year, has a lot to do w/ the fact that 6A in NKY isn't down this year. Additionally, Dixie was playing very well to start the season, and Highlands is 9th in the country. On top of all of that, CovCath is better. This is a case of a year where the bigger schools are actually where they are supposed to be and Beechwood and NewCath were rebuilding.

W/Ls have always been a terrible way to evaluate teams including last year's team. I'm on record as saying Coach Brossart got one more win out of them than most expected.

I Agreed The biggest difference is in the score differential in the losses.

 

Some may say a loss is a loss, I partially agree but lets look at the details.

 

However in 2008 here are the scores of the losses:

 

Mooney 57 - 0

Elder 56 -7

Highlands 61 - 0

North Hopkins 17-14

Beechwood 35 - 21

St. X 56 - 0

 

2009 Losses

Ryle (no where near as good as Mooney)

34 -14

 

LexCath (much better than North Hardin)

23 -17

 

Lasalle ( no where near as good as Elder )

35 - 44

 

Highlands (IMO better than the 2008 version)

36 -7

 

St. X ( about the same as 2008)

63 -7

 

Even though I think the 2008 version of CovCath had more individual talent, I think the 2009 version played better as a team. That is in no way a shot at the coaches, just my opinion on how they played. So IMO CovCath is not a good example of NKY teams being down or up in 2009.

Madisonville North Hopkins was a solid, sound 6A playoff team; other than that I agree with your assessment.
