As a Highlands fan I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ryle's program. You didn't duck or hide and stepped up twice this year against a nationally ranked team. Thank you for giving us a game so late in the year. You will be a better football team for doing it and I will be rooting for you in the playoffs.

Uh, slight correction needed on the underlined.

 

Highlands had a chance to play Colerain and turned them down. The Cardinals contacted Coach Mueller about a game this year and they were rebuffed so...not quite "every possible effort"...just the ones that Dale thought would be a very good shot at a W.

 

Don't want to hijack the thread but wanted to get the truth out there.

 

As for the topic, no reason to think Highlands doesn't do to Ryle this week exactly what they did earlier in the season. Highlands expected to be at full strength this week?

No, I am sure it would have been earlier in the year. Obviously, we can't change our league schedule but during the weeks where Highlands played Ryle, Beechwood and Withrow, Colerain would have tried to work something out.

 

Don't want to make a big deal about it, just wanted to get the truth out there. Colerain reached out to Highlands to play a return game AT HIGHLANDS and were rebuffed. Simple as that. Reasons don't matter, just wanted to point it out because someone made the comment that "every reasonable effort was made" to avoid playing Ryle twice...and that's a falsehood.

We asked the Pittsburg Steelers to play on this Friday but they didn't fit into our schedule.:laugh: Why would we back down this year knowing this years team probably is a little better than last year's team. Sometimes schedules just don't matchup.

Colerain, on the other hand, had taken eventual Ohio D1 State Runner-up Elder to 2OT in the regional final and returned half their team. They were ranked in no less than 4 national pre-season rankings and was number one in both the Enquirer/Coaches poll as well as TriStateFootball.com's poll.

Any one with a lick of sense understood why X was 4-6 last year and failed to make the playoffs, and likewise knew that X had a lot of talent returning this year.

 

Whereas, a lot of people in Cinti and on Yappi (perhaps you too......) felt Colerain was not going to be near as good as they were last year due to the loss of all the O linemen. They understood the importance of the O line.

 

Seems like those folks may have been smarter than those that voted in the polls you cited.

 

Just be glad Colerain played Highlands last year and not this year so you can continue to attempt to belittle Highlands, Dale and N. Ky football every chance you get.

 

I'm sure that if Colerain did contact Dale to attempt to schedule a game, it was explored by Dale and an attempt was made to find a mutual opening in the schedules. I know that Dale tried to schedule Trinity for this week, but that didn't work out on Trinity's end. Some times games don't get booked for reasons other than coaches trying to duck other teams. So unless you know that Colerain proposed a game during a week that Dale already had not been committed to, please don't come over here and say Dale didn't do every thing possible to avoid having to play Ryle twice. You've already admitted that Colerain could not play Ryle this week. Who did you play the week of the first Ryle game?

 

It's kind of preposterous and actually sophomoric to think that Dale would attempt to duck Colerain this year, having played them last year and played a competitive game. Particularly with Dale thinking his team would be better this year than last.

I personally believe that Dale tried to schedule Colerain and it did not work out due to the weeks available. It is not so easy to put a schedule together since certain weeks are committed to district games. I'm sure he felt Ryle twice was a secondary option, but we are glad to play the best twice. Only way to improve and see where you are. Lookin' forward to a battle against a great team on Friday night. The Raiders will show up and play well.
